so.... In my search to get around California Smog Test I was reading the DMV website.

CA DMV states that when you transfer/sell/give a car to a family member the smog is exempt.

My question is- does this inter-family transfer RESET the 2 year smog requirement?

If so, then every two years, could my brother and I just pass the car back and forth to avoid smog checks?

If anyone has any thoughts on this I would appreciate it.

Well, after further investigation the biennial smog check is still a factor.

While smog cert is not required for family transfers the DMV still follows the 2 year cycle.

Damn.

Anyone in Nor Cal got "a guy". ;)

I believe they've relaxed the requirements for emissions for pre-2000 cars in CA recently. It might depend though on the last time you actually got a test. You might want to check it out with your local friendly smog technician.
