All transfer case recall threads are merged here.

Does anybody have a number i can call to see if my cars had the recall done?thanks.

Read through this thread. You should be able to find all the information you need. You won't necessarily get a new Xfer case just because. The only thing you can do is call the main offices and hope that they will make the dealership do the work. The only way you will get a new Xfer case is if they decide there's enough damage caused to require one. Again, all of this could have been figured out just by reading through the previous posts; it's all in here.

so one day, i brought my car to the mitsu dealership, to check on the recals, becuase i have that transaxle leak, seems pretty bad, i find myself toppin off gear fluid every month or so, and i can really smell the oil burning when i down shift or something of that sort.
Anyways, it seems the previous owner brought in the car for the recalls back in 98. they said there is no way they can look at it unless i pay 75 bucks. is there anyway to get around that? or should ijust fix it myself, i saw some fix-its on the vfaq.
One more, when i investigated the yoke (i think it was the yolk) it was a lil rough on the edges. this was because when i got my clutch installed, some dummy didn't put that oil seal back on. but i replaced it the next day, when i smelt oil.

any tips? help? anything? thanks

The estimate to have mine diagnosed was $90, but the recall picked up that as well. Being a Talon, it was through Chrysler, and I had a really good service guy working on it to get them to okay the work. My total cost was $0. It seems Mits might be giving more static about it, but it's a Federal safety recall. They "have" to replace the transfer case if it's bad. Look over the recall thread.

I agree with Defiant. When I tried to get my recall done, the dealerships were giving me tons of trouble. I called Chrysler, who called the dealership and straightened them out. If you are confident the problem would be fixed by performing the recall, call Mitsu and explain the situation. I'm guessing they will work it out for you.

alright, anyone have the 800 number for mitsubishi, thanks for the help... dealership people are pretty much a pain, anyways, thanks for the HELP!

Ok so i just read the t-case recall info after finding that my transfer case has been leaking so much that i fould all a big puddle of fluid under my car this morning. I jacked it up and it lookes like its leaking from the tcase ( i could not find anywere else that it was leaking from) it actually looks like a bolt snapped and was leaking from a seal or something like that. I called the dealership up and they said that i do have a recall on it. Now my question is that i have a 90 and the tranny is a 91 if i take it to the dealer and not tell them this will they still replace it? I will post a pic of where the leak is coming from.

where the circle is is where it lookes like the bolt snapped off. If your laying facing to your left then the exhaust would be towards the bottom of the pic sorry i had a bright flashlight. The word "no bolt" is right on the tcase and the driveshaft is a little further back. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks

The phone number for Mitsubishi is 1-800-222-0037, for Chrysler it is 1-800-521-2777 (or perhaps 1-800-992-1997). _ Canadians phone Chrysler Canada at 1-800-465-2001. The NHTSA is at 1-888-327-4236.

Does this apply to us Canadians too? The Chrysler dealership where i live ROYALLY screwed me over the last time i went in there, the put the wrong timing belt and fried my engine, and even though the replaced everything free of charge they took all my aftermarket engine mods and said they were never there!

We are getting a Mitsubishi dealership soon, would they do the work if mines an Eagle?

weres it leak? is it a crack? do you have JB weld for a crack? is it at the gasket? if so then u can replace it urself. but get a new one.

well im not sure just know that the xfer case has a leak and i heard that there is a recall so if i can get a new one free or fixed for free then awsome i just need details on such a recall ;)

The dealer just changed my driveshaft yoke a few weeks ago....under warranty

What? You still have warranty on a 1G??

With Mitsubishi dealers/brand, once the recall has been performed, it's considered closed for that car. It's up to the owner to pay for subsequent repairs, even if a leaking transfer case was fixed the first time. The problem with this is that if the transfer case was misdiagnosed the first time, the recall on that car gets closed and the owner is cheated out of a free repair and has to pay for a proper repair.

It's been a while since someone has posted about the issue so I was wondering if it will steal be as easy to get done. Just recently the transfer case problem arose in my 1990 AWD TSI Talon. I'm going to call them today but am just wondering if anyone recently got the recall done and what the results were.

My '93 has the symptoms also but living in central, N.Y. it is in storage. Please post what you find out. I believe the VFAQ has something about a repair should the dealer put up a big fight. Is it possible to buy a new yoke to replace the leaking one? Anyone know how much if it is possible? Mark

Here's a question I have.

I just picked up my car on Sunday.

How will I get notified about the recall? Obviously I know about it, but I have read you need a notice. Will they send me a notice about it or should I inquire about it.

about the recal, i drive a 92 talon heavily modified, i just got all the work done about 1 month ago and all the fluid has leaked out of my transfer case and has been empty for about a week...... needless to say it is scary as shit and whines like a 2 bit woooooore when you get into 3rd gear and above!!!!!!do you guys think that they will say its the horsepower that broke it and not give me the coverage???? if so any ways to get around this problem and/or trick the system would be appreciated!!!!!! thanks alot :thumb:

If you drove it for 2 weeks without oil in it you will need a new case, try salvage yards as it is an $1800. part. They ran my car's VIN and said the recall had been done and that was it. For the $80. for yoke and seal I did not argue.
You may have to eatthis one. Try some redline shock prof gear oil in the case but I am afraid it is a goner. With the dealer all you can do is try.Check out the threads on the recall and have as much info as you can when you go to the dealer. Surprised you did not dmell the ol when it leked out as the smell is unmistakeable, like the rear end fluid. Check to see if your case has cracked....is it holdong fluid now? Good luck. Mark

can i still get it recalled if i have it out of the car? or do they have to physically look at in the car

They Normally have to have proof of the VIN and they need to be able to inspect everythign around the car. But Its really up to the Dealers Descresion. My anal local dealer saw I had retapped the tranny and put in standard american bolts and they had a sh*tter. They said they would fix the problem but they needed 60 dollars for diagnostic fee before they worked on it anymore.OMG I told em to shove it up their arse. :thumb:

Id get it back in the car if posible. And If you guys have read the entire thread Saftey Recalls are lifetime and it dosent matter how many times they have been done if they break again it should still be covered under the recall. But after its done/checked by the dealer once its up to the dealer to re-do it on their own descresion.

i just weny down to dodge and they took a look at the transfer case!!!!! i came back later and the guy said a he ordered a new one and it will be in soon!!! there was no questions asked, even with a 500+ hp motor under the hood....... it does pay of to go and give it a try hey :) :dsm:

I got a question for you guy... Lets say you have a setup like mine where your car started life as an AWD Automatic and you have done a A/T to M/T swap. How would you get them to do the recall? VIN wouldnt match the current xfer case.

I currently have my xfer case off. Can I just take it into the dealer with the VIN from the parts car is came from?

Any suggestions?
