Ok guys here is the deal. My original motor at the timing belt. Thats fine. I bought a used motor and swapped it in. Fine. Car ran ok but had a lot of vibration. This is my troubles/symptoms.

Everytime I start the car I get a screeching/grinding noise. Goes away once I release the clutch pedal. Car was vibrating badly

My mistake was that after I did the swap, I forgot to put in fluid back in. I know dumb mistake, but I live to learn. now flash forward 1 month to today. I was driving down the road just leaving a stop light and doing about 15 mph. The car wheels just locked up. It felt like I mashed the brake pedal. I couldnt get it to move after that.

The front wheels move ok. rears were locked up. Towed the car to my teachers garage. We took out the T case to find metal shavings on top from the flywheel rubbing on it. I do not know how but thats what we found. So we took out the t case and hung up the driveshaft . I took it for a test drive and it drove ok. Still had the screeching/grinding on startup though.

We also bled the system and the car didnt really grind when I pushed down the clutch. This was a major problem because the grinding when I push down the clutch I think was the flywheel rubbing on the t case. Whats the cause of this. I have all bolts in the tranny to engine combo. Any help / comments appreciated.

What I plan to do. Buy clutch master cylinder repair kit. Fix that. Little drops by the rubber boot.
Next buy the extended slave cylinder rod.
put in master cylinder and bleed system.

Any opinions/ help?
Can I run the car in FWD mode somehow until I find a t case for cheap? Thanks for your help guys. Ill be checking this every few min for updates.

You will burn up the viscous coupler. Don't do it. So was it the transmission or transfer case that you forgot to put fluid in? Which ever it was is probably toast.

OK Ya I do LOL. So does anyone know why the flywheel was rubbing the t case? I saw metal shavings all on thop the t case

I have 4 bolts installed . 2 on top right next to eachother. one by the slave cylinder, and the one that goes from engine side to inside tranny. 4 total. Any ideas?

Only way this can happen is you are or were missing the bolt that goes into the tranny from the block side above the transfer case and you were or are missing the dust cover to the flywheel. When you clutch in the tranny will push away from the block. Is the flywheel bolted to the transmission or the engine? Well...guess what happens.

I am missing the inspection plate. flywheel is bolted to block man of course. I have that bolt in. Its a really long and skinny bolt . just put in last week to get car going again

That where your problem did lie then. At least for that part. Do not buy the extended slave rod. It does not, cannot and will not ever fix a problem without creating another. It is a bandaid, poorly understood, and is not a viable solution to anything. Can you tell I hate them?

By long and skinny bolt I meant the rear tranny bolt LOL. that actually made it so the car was driveable. before, I didnt have that bolt and the flywheel would grind even more....put it in and it started and drove ok

tranny was really low. I put a whole thing of gear oil and it still didnt fill up today, and also the t case was dry........:(

So, your saying that you ran the t-case with no oil for about a month? If that is the case them start looking for another t-case.

Are there any marks on the flywheel that indicates it is rubbing the t-case? Starter Plate?

Ya i ran for 1 month no oil. I already had planned replacing it too. So I found metal shavings on top of the t case.

So picture the tcase as it sits in the tranny. drop it straight down. right on top there is shavings. and yes I can see on the flywheel that it rubbed. I have a really shiny lip on the outer edge. Pics on wednesday.

Any ideas guys?

Only thing that comes to mind is that you may have bad thrust bearings. The noise you hear when clutch is push in might be from the thrust bearings. I would just take the pan down and check the thrust bearings just for the hell of it. Or drain the oil and inspect for metal shavings.

Another thing you can try is mount a dial indicator so see how much the flywheel moves when you press in the clutch. This way you wont have to take down the pan.
