greetings everyone,

i have 2g dsm eclipse. its the 2.0 liter nt model.

im wanting to change my tranny fluid. but im a bit skeptical, everywhere i go, (including my manual) it states something like:

For all vehicles with manual transaxles, except 1995-98 2.0L non-turbo engine, use...

and then it goes on saying what they should "use". so that leaves me confused. what does my car use?

I was looking in http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/236848-best-manual-tranny-fluid.html but im thinking they all had the 2.4 liter NT version?

this may sound stupid, but does my car even use this kind of fluid? and will this guide be exactly how my car is? Transaxle Fluid Change

thanks

im thinkin about ebaying some Redline MTL since I can't find any locally.

Also, is that guide in the link i posted the correct one for draining, and filling your tranny fluid? more specifically, for when i get my Redline MTL?

I use a mix of redline mtl and mt90.

First you loosen the drain bolt on the bottom of the trans, really easy to see once you're under there. Let the fluid drain then put the bolt back in.

Then take out the fill bolt and fill the trans up. I first put in 1qt of mt90, then 1qt of mtl, then topped it off with mt90. It makes it easier to fill the trans if you get a hand held pump from a local auto store or even Wall mart

Thanks for that, so basically that guide I have posted in my original post, matches what your saying? (Pictures really help me, even more so when they are accurate. LOL.)

It being non turbo i would not run redline that sounds over kill. Just mobil 1 75 90. I guess it depends on how much u love your car :)

You wont need a guide you will look under there and be like oh snap i made this out to be a big deal and its, like nothin.. LOL

Thats not going to help me locate the correct spots...

Do not mix fluids.

I've read of multiple people mixing fluids, especially in this topic >> http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/236848-best-manual-tranny-fluid.html

So what they're doing is bad?

My car is a non turbo. Can you please elaborate on why it would not be such a good idea?

Turbo trannies needs the higher protection being that they are under severe work pressures, whereas the NT trannies are just such - daily driver trannies that are not under this pressure.

Shoot, had a 1.8L that I shoved in AMSOIL transaxle fluid in it. Helped the tranny considerably. True, the tranny didn't need this expensive fluid, but just wanted the best for it even though the simple 75w/90 stuff would have sufficed. It really all depends on how you want to treat your car.

Only one or two people in that thread mix. Most use something straight. Sometimes it is ok. Sometimes the fluids do not mix chemically. I do not see a point in mixing unless you need to have a special mix for your needs. Just use straight MTL, MT90, or syncromesh. I prefer MTL. How many miles are on your tranny?

There are 78,560 miles on it. So reading the post above yours, it seems that Redline MTL won't harm my engine, it would just be not as necessary...if thats the case I think I will get it, as I do fancy my engine. :D
