Hey, I recently got a 2g gsx (96), and I have been reading up for days on maintenance and what not. I'm stuck between fluids for the drivetrain. I live in Michigan, Warren area to be exact. The temperature can raise from -20 with wind chill in the winter to about 90s, sometimes a little more in the summer. I don't want to be spending money on fluid to change every season, so I was wondering what I could use for the manual trans, xfer case, and rear diff. I've read a lot of great stuff on redline. The heavyweight shockproof I think would be too much for the rear diff and xfer case in the winter. And the manual trans, I'm not so sure. Any help is appreciated

I really like Motul 300 for the transaxle, been using it in my GST for a while now. I also run Redline 80w-140 for both the transfer and rear in my awd talon, which I just picked up.

I would only use 2.4qts of the mixture. I just don't want to switch fluids every season, it is going to be my daily.

I will take this to mean you want to use one fluid all year round as twice a year is hardly seasonal. Then go with MT-85 in the trans-axle and 75w90 in the transfer case and rear end. Boom done.

Your going to get all kinds of answers from people that live in different climates that have their own home brew.

Alright. That should be good year around? I read that it should only need to be changed every 30k miles, so I planned on flushing around that time. I just don't have the money to change fluid for winter, and then summer. My gsx will only be slightly modded and daily driven.

Not sure if you did much research on your car, but they do require very regular maintenance. The more you modify it, the more the frequency of maintenance will need to be. Just keep this in mind if your are on an extremely limited budget.
