Ok Guys i Kinda Stumped right now i wanted to get your guys opinion before to pulled the trans back out again

Trans came out the first time to get new 3rd and 4th synchronous then i put it back in everything worked fine.
Had to pull the trans because I ended up breaking the end off the 3-4 shift rail in side so i just replaced it with a different one i had laying around. This was do to using the wrong shifter base cables and trans bracket so i think i over stroked it and broke it off.

Witch leads me up to the Problem. Got everything in and hooked up correctly but now second gear grind really bad going in. Not like a bad synchro bad but like the clutch is not fully disengaging. The shifter will go to its position but the gear will grind a bit until it finally catches. There is no resistance going in to second i don't have to force it in it just grinds when going in. like a 1 or 2 second grind then catches and then i am fine. The grind happens before i get to the shifter bump stop on the shiftier base.

Side note I am running a 91 trans in a 90 car i have the 90 shiftier base in the 90 trans shiftier cable bracket and i believe the 90 shifter cables. ( DO THE 90 SHIFTIER CABLES HAVE ONE ADJUSTABLE CABLE AND ONE NON-ADJUSTABLE CABLE) But this is a 91 trans at least from the inside the gear sets looks like the 91 and up. but the shifter arm is a short arm. That is the way it has been even before i bought it so that is why i am running all the 90 shift parts.

Any ideas i was going to try some more stuff tonight to figure out the problem. Then if i cant find anything more then i guess ill have to pull the trans out and take it apart again.

when replacing the 3-4 shift rail did you need to adjust any shims or races in case? could it be something isn't quite lined up due to a shim? just a thought

i would think if it was either the slave cylinder or the master cylinder you would see it across all the gears and not just 2nd

The shifter bracket on the transmission from a 90 and a 91+ is different. The way the cables are positioned is a bit different and gives it a different throw. Also, the shift linkage inside the transmission is different as well.

The inside the gears all have the groove going around the gear teeth witch is 91+ gears sets right or not but it has a short arm on the trans.

i do not have pic of my set up with me but here are pics of the parts i am using

The one on the left is the bracket i am using

Did some testing

Tore the trans down again absolutely nothing is out of place and it shift perfect sitting on the bench i am almost positive the trans is good
put it back together put it back in

I bleed the crap out of the clutch line

The clutch fork is stroking fully.

Still no luck

it seams like maybe the syncro is not slowing the shaft down enough to let the gear in but i am not sure how it can go from working good to not working at all can that happen i mean when i took the trans apart i never even messed with the 1-2 gear set

next i am going to put a stock rebuilt trans that know is in perfect working order and try that if i still have the prob then the trans is bad if it is the same i know there i problems not involving the trans
