so i had to pull my trans because i snapped a bolt on my flywheel, i drained it and i need to know how much to put back in, and is there a check bolt? i know the filler bolt is up top but is there a bolt in the side that i pull and just add till it comes out?

ps before i pulled trans i pulled drain plug, did not re-build.

Fill plug is also the "check" plug; below is a picture of a FWD transmission. Fill while on level ground (or you may not properly fill it) until it flows out of the fill plug. Quantity of fluid for non-turbo transmission is 1.9 quarts and 2.4 quarts for the turbo transmissions.

I have a 97 2.4 Sohc auto trans . Owners manual says 6.1 quarts.. I took off the pan replaced the filter and it only looked to be about 4 quarts in there ...I must've threw in a gallon and spilled a quart due to it not going into the dipstick smoothly so I threw in 3-3.5 quarts of atf. I checked my dipstick in park (I should check in neutral) when hot and the level passed hot passed the cure in the dipstick but runs fine. What should I look for if I overfilled ? It's not coming out of the dipstick ? How much to put? All these place say different capacitys.

You are running an auto trans bud. The quantities in this thread are for a manual.

Remember to check when the fluid is hot and the car is running.

Right , ok well I think I put too much , since when I checked hot it was over I will drain some out from the l drain plug.

6.1 qts is total system capacity. For a filter and fluid swap I'd bet it's calling for 4-4.5 qts. You won't be able to drain the entirety out of the tq converter or certain other areas in an auto trans.

Drain some out (prolly have to ditch 1.5-2 qts) and recheck when warm like suggested.
