tranny whine

i recently changed my tranny fluid to the penzoil syncromesh,while it def helped out the shifts,i now hear a slight whine in what seems like every gear except fifth..sounds like your in reverse but def not as loud. should i try a different fluid,i a still on the stock 90 tranny with 170k. i am the second owner and the previous owner took VERY good care of the car. the shifts were just a tad notchy and didnt grind going into gears,i just wanted to change the fluid for a little smoother shift...but i am curious why i now have that whine...thanks for the help..

Could it possibly be the throw out bearing for the clutch?
I know those whine when they start to go bad.
Does the whine go away when you press the clutch to shift?

yes,the noise goes away when you press the clutch in.it mostly does it when your just cruising with light throttle.i guess it could be the TOB,but seems weird it happened after i changed the fluid.

Perhaps the new lubrication is, let's say new, it may cause more drag in the tranny.....
You did use the manufactured specification for tranny lube viscosity right....

yup,i used the penzoil synrcomesh..the one approved for gm vehicles....what is another brand i could try? how about the royal purple stuff?

I haven't used any of this stuff, but SBR carries some different lub, including the Royal Purple.
When I do my clutch sometime this year, I'll use the BG Syncro Shift.
