Tranny spline #?

Can anyone tell me how I can find out what spline is may tranny w/o having to take it off first. Would like to purchase a used tranny b4 taking mine off now. Thanks to all

if your trans is original to your 90, it should be a 22 spline trans...

Distingishing between the different transmissions all has to do with the output shaft of the transmission to the input shaft of the transfer case.

Count the number of splines on the output shaft of the transmission. It should either be 22 or 23 splines. To the best of my knowledge, 90's are the only transmissions that came with 22 spline output shafts. To do this, simply remove the transfer case and count the splines on the output shaft of the trans...

So, to awnser your question, no, a 23 spline transmission is not interchangable with a 22 spline transmission...

If you get a 23 spline transmission, a 23 spline transfer case, and a 91-94 shifter assembly (cables and all), you can upgrade from the 22 spline trans setup...

If your tranny is stock your output shaft should be a 23 spline
