Where is a good spot for the sending unit?

Anyone that has installed on, please PM me.

The sender wire is shorting to ground somewhere. Happy hunting. No need to bring a tracking dog, the job's bi*** enough on its own.
Start in the vicinity of where you were working on the speedo, trans or dash.

thats what i figured defiant, But i didnt think there was anything around the speedo cable area, for the temp gauge?

I just ordered a tranny temp gauge and have been reading on how to install it. I've read that it's best to tap off of the return line from the tranny cooler ( I have an aftermarket one with a spal fan) but why is that? wouldn't you want to see what the tranny temp is, not what the fluid temp if that the tranny cooler cooled it down to?

And for quesion #2 (and 3)
I've read that the tranny temp shold be anywhere from 150-200 degrees, is this correct? How about when brake boosing or after a pull? Thanks

Heres a pic of mine. i ordered it about a week ago.

Sutpid question- which line is the return line going into the tranny and which is the line thats coming out of the tranny into the cooler? The line closer to the firewall or vase-versa?

I'm 90% sure its the line closer to the firewall but i'll check.

Sigh, I got my tranny temp gauge wired up, and it doesn't read tranny temp, unless it's below 100 degrees when cruising around. I used a test light and I'm getting power to the sender, to the power wire and I made sure my ground was good as well. Could the sensor be bad right out of the box? I was researching and a couple people online said that they needed to ground out the sender unit where it connects to the sensor, but none of my instructions say to do that.

If your using an Autometer temp gauge, then you have to ground the IPT sender block for it to work..Just put a hose clamp around one of the block's ends and tighten the clamp around a bare wire end that is grounded nearby...I realize this post is old, but this info would have helped me Big Time..:)

OMG, thank you so much. It still hasn't worked since I put it in. If I were to ground out the clamp and it's clamped on the rubber hose, not the sender itself, wouldn't that not ground anything out? Thank you.

It has to be the brass part of the block..The red wire is grounded at my antilock brake mount..

So ive been checking the threads that are up and there are not many. My new gauges should be coming in tomorrow and i want to get these things installed asap. One is an oil pressure gauge, not hard. But my trans temp gauges is the one im confused about. How do i install this? Do i just undo the drain plug and use that? Or drain all the fluid, take off the pan, drill a hole? Just curious if anyone could shed some light.

I connected mine at the coolant atf discharge line that goes from trans to cooler. You need to go to lowes or homedepo and get a t-fitting, two fittings that will fit the atf hose and go into the t fitting along with some maybe thread sealant-probably you wont need it, cut the line in half and connect. you need to connect this at the atf discharge line which is if I remember the one that is closest to the firewall. You will not see any higher temperatures right now, but they will definitely go up soon with outside temperature. Good luck
