Where is a good spot for the sending unit?

Anyone that has installed on, please PM me.

If you get TCUGO if it ever comes back out.. It has the boost feature built in. Also, Upgraded/Add on tranny coolers are cheap and help tremendously. When I put my FMIC on, my stocker was busted so I replaced it with one from IPT and put it in the stock SMIC locations. Works great.

Also, it is extremely useful to have a trans temp gauge. The Glow Shift ones actually work great and are cheap enough. Then you will not be guessing if your tranny is too hot.

Also, the translab shift kit is EASILY the best mod I have done to my car, or any auto car for that matter. It isn't as hard as it looks, just go ahead and pick up a new Manual Valve, you'll need it. (I broke mine, LOL)

Also, the stock stall should be fine for a while. I would do the shift kit and end clutches for sure... but hold off on the stall for another day.

I don't think you'll need to run a gauge if you're fairly stock. But if you plan on beating the car till kingdom come, you might want one. All of the information above me is correct (except for the power flush, which I would not recommend).

Precisely. I've been doing some extensive reading all across and came to the conclusion that I am going to do these things before I install the TCUGO:

Transmission cooler
End Clultch
Shift Kit
Autometer ( ;0) ) Transmission Temp Gauge

I've actually purchased a used unit from a member on DSMtalk. It should be here pretty soon... And of course, a new filter and flush, etc while the pan is open, of course. I've found the how-tos on the shift kit and the end clutch kit and I'm sure the ATX temp gauge will have instructions on how to install. Tranny cooler shouldn't be a problem. All will be ordered from IPT.

Thanks for the advices.

I wasn't aware about the "boost feature"... what feature is that, exactly?

I used the stiffer one, and its fine for daily use. I don't remember what color it was though, I was thinking the black. It gives a slightly stiffer down shift if I remember correctly. The only ill effect compared to the other one is a slight thump when slowing to a stop and the tranny shifts down. You can always feel it, with either spring, just more profoundly with the stiffer one.

Go the stiffer one and feel what its like to be slammed into your seat when you stomp the pedal.

end clutchs and a fluid change would be the first thing i would do.. my end clutchs blew themselfs apart after a 120mph run on the eway, and thats why it has ipt clutchs now LOL. i also put a trans temp gauge and a huge cooler on my car and i havent had any problems. i have also noticed that my temps droped like 20dg when i switch to syntehic b&m trickshift.

I recommend against trickshift and so does everyone else. Not a good idea for our cars. (Even IPT recommends against) Stick with amsoil, redline, and mobil 1 with lube gaurd black. (IPT will recommend these)

I'll try to dig up some links for why.

really i didnt kno that trickshift was bad, the only reason i used it was because on plymonthlaser.com that site recomends it. well i geuss i should stop using that rite away maybe thats why my trans has been shifting funny

I just purchased the sender block and it should be here by friday and if it is I will be installing it this weekend. I also got an autometer gauge. If you dont decide what your going to do by this weekend I'll let you know how the gauge sender is.

I installed my guage this weekend and used their guage kit. Its simple and easy to install. It beats going to a hardware store and trying to piece something together. Unless you just happent to have it sitting around:sneaky:

How are your guys readings? When I first start the car, obviously my gauge doesn't even read any temp, but it takes a good 10 minutes for the temperature to start rising into its normal 140 degree range. BTW I mounted my sender in the pan.

i installed my temp gauge off the pressure line that i think was before the cooler. I used the IPT "tee" thing, which i honestly was unimpressed with given that it didnt work as it with the autometer sender. But aside from needing more things to make it work, i got it done.

Now my book on this trasnmission says that the operating temp should be 160-180. Well it took 20 mintues to get the thing to 145. Granted its snowing and i think that its cooling it down alot. Ill have to see what it does once it warms up.

Completely normal. Mine is the exact same way. It takes FOREVER to rise, and it only gets to 130-140. I don't think the normal temperature should be 180. I mean, that's what mine is after a lot of brake boosting.

I agree with Mr. Zilo…

I used a Snap-on scanner as a trans temp gauge after performing my transmission modifications. After a forty minute, 70-75 mph cruise on the interstate; my transmission temperature was only 156 degrees. Ambient temperature that day was about 75-80 degrees, and I had the lock-up converter disabled for the test.

perfect i appreciate it.....i bought a trans temp, egt, boost, oil press, oil temp, air to fuel ratio....gauges but my talon is out of town getting its 5th transmition rebuild in a year.......they dont know what their doing...and keep giving it back to me f'cked up.....so yeah i havent had a chance to consider putting the gauges in.......but when i do...it'll be nice to have a walkthrough for as much as possible so i can actually drive the car....with little down time....

Ok today, i was bored and was getting tired of not having my speedo working. So i decided to fix it, which i did. But now when i put the the key into the ignition, i notice my temp gauge goes all the way to past hot. I was wondering what was the cause of this. Could it be a bad ground or something. Any help would be great...
