Im ready to torque the head on the block and torque the cam. But I dont have torque wrench with me. So I have to buy one. Can 1/2" torque wrench torque both head and cam?. I dont want to buy 1/4" to torque if 1/2" can torque both. Im trying to save money in my pocket. Once again, Can 1/2" torque wrench can torque both head and cam or i have to buy both?

It depends in the specific 1/2" torque wrench you're looking at. My 3/8" SnapOn is able to torque the 4g63 head as well as the cam gear bolts and even the cam cap bolts if that's what you're referring to by "torquing the cam".

yes. I dont want to spent more money to buy both torque wrench if there one torque wrench that can do it all. I just want to know if 1/2 torque wrench can do head and cam bolts? Or tell me which size of torque wrench that can do both.

Yes, a 1/2" torque wrench can do both. Whether or not you have the right adapters or sockets is a different story. I use a 1/2" torque wrench for everything and honestly can't see why it would be an issue.

LOL true but i always wonder why they made 1/4 torque wrench for? i mean 1/2" torque can do everything right so why bother buying 1/4" torque wrench.

Most 1/2 torque wrenches have a range they work in.

The Brownline Digatal torque wrench I now use has a work range of 15-150 lbs

Now when you have to torque , say your valve cover, to 120 in/lbs
The 1/2 will not be able to set low enough to reach that spec.

Also with the cam tower bolts being a 6mm, I doubt most clicker or digital 1/2 torque wrenchs will be able to be set that low.

Also if you are looking for a torque wrench, check out Brown Line Metalworks, LLC | Professional Grade Digital Torque Wrench

They are a supporting vendor.

You can use a 1/2" torque wrench as long as its set at the proper torque setting. But like stated, usually a 1/2" torque wrench wont measure in in/lbs low enough for the cam caps or anything with a light torque spec. A smaller torque wrench like the 1/4" are usually made for smaller jobs using in/lbs.

If you do serious research on torque wrenches you will find out that its best to use a torque wrench that the specific torque value is in the middle of the range of the torque wrench because the bigger the wrench normally means its less accurate with lower torque values. That's why they have 1/4,3/8,1/2,3/4 inch drives all each has its own range of values. I saw with motor internals its best to be more accurate which means you should have more than one wrench plus like others have said 1/2 can't be used in all situations so right tool for the job and do it right the first time sorry for the long post

today im going to Walmart to buy 1/2 torque wrench so i can torque cam cap then later torque the head. But I dont know how much foot pound for torque the cam cap. 14-15 lbs = what foot pound?

You are going to need a 1/4 inch torque wrench for those. Your 1/2 inch wrench won't go low enough to do a bolt like that.

oh okay. So i guess i have to buy 1/4 torque wrench for cam cap and buy 1/2 torque wrench for torque my head. Am i right?

Harbor Freight has all 3 (1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 inch). They are all under 20 dollars a piece, sometimes a coupon pops up for 9.99 every once in a while. I know everyone is going to say they arent great, but i have used them on 3 builds and never had a problem. They are great, especially if your on a budget. As for accuracy, I compared it to my buddies craftsman and It was exactly the same. I only need my 3/8" to do pretty much everything, i only used the 1/4 on the water pump bolts i think. Anything under 10 and under I used my 1/4"

woow thank you. Now im going to habor frieght. Is 3/8 will show you lbs so i can torque the cam cap?

My 3/8 torque wrench goes from 10-100ft/lbs. My 1/4 is 0-10ft/lbs my 1/2 is 25-250ft/lbs. 3/8 would probably be your best bet. It will go low enough for cam caps and high enough for head studs.

Thank i will buy 3/8 torque wrench but when i look up torque wrench information on Walmart site. It say foot pound, it doesn't say lbs at all. ( i never seen 3/8 torque wrench). If i go to harbor freight to buy 3/8 torque wrench, Does the torque wrench will show lbs?

ft/lbs is what they mean when they are saying lbs. Mine are digital and read in/lbs ft/lbs and nm.

Yes it will show ft/lbs. This is a link to the 3/8 inch drive torque wrench on the harbor freight website. It says it does from 5 ft/lbs to 80. Although I can hardly hear it click under 10 ft/lbs. Also the one from harbor freight does have a lifetime warranty which is amazing.
