Torn CV Boot

My front left inner CV boot has a tear in it. I would like to fix it as soon as possible so that I don't have to replace the axle. It isn't clicking yet, so my hopes are that I can get away with just the boot. I have a few questions about it:

Are the outer and inner CV boots different? On Autozone's website, I can't seem to locate an inner CV boot, but I can easily locate the outer CV boot.

Is this a repair that requires a lift?

If not, then what tools will I need to complete the job myself?

Could someone perhaps direct me to an article about this? I've done some searching, but didn't really find any detailed information about replacing a CV boot.

Is this something you think I could do myself? My knowledge of repairs is limited. All I can really do is change some fluids and do a tuneup.

Thanks. That's helpful. However, it just shows that it is something way out of my league.

So, my main question now becomes, are the inner and outer cv boots interchangeable, or no?

No the inner and outer cv boots are not the same. I went to Carquest and bought the universal boots for mine, you can get the inner and outer in those. I rebuilt the driver and passenger side axles with no problems. If you have a NAPA or something like that in your area see if they have them, or see if the dealer has them.
