Torn CV Boot

If a dsm has a torn front left CV Boot and probably needs the axle replaced...what does that mean.. and what might have caused this to be needing replaced...if someone could explain all that to me... i would greatly appreciate it..Thank You.. also if that is the only thing wrong with the car is it worth buying...

hey, well basically it means the axle will need to be pulled out and changed w/ a new one that you can get at www.raxles.com or just at a local parts dealer, its not that big of a deal and if thats the only thing wrong with the car then i would probably buy it.

Just make sure you replace it and dont buy one of those cv boot repair kits.

It is very common for the boots to deteriorate on a car this old. I replaced mine two years ago. If the CV joint is not making any noise, I would probably just replace the boots, rather than the entire CV axle. I caught mine rather early and replaced them and have had no further problems. It only cost about $7 to replace the two boots on each axle.

where did you find cv boots for that cheap??...the cheapest i found was 17.99 at autozone for 1

I got them from a local import parts distributor, not one of the big national chains. They had to order them, but got them in 2-3 days.

replacing the boots is fine I was talking about those split boots that seam together , they never last.
