there really isn't a best sub. but there are some subs that would work best given certain applications. The main thing to getting any sub to sound great or be really loud (sq or spl) would be the box. a $1000 sub can sound worse than a $30 sub if the box is designed improperly. but my 5 favorite subs would be:
1: Elemental Designs A series
2: Adire Audio Brahma series
3: Resonant Engineering XXX series
4: JL Audio W7 series
5: Treo SSX series
these aren't in any particular order

I competed in audio for years with my 98 R/T. The best brand by far is JL Audio. The new W-7's are a thing of beauty. I ran 4 12" W-3 and they hit like no other. Just about every sub they offer is hands above other manufactures. If you want to go old school, go with PPI. They haven't done much anymore, but they used to be the premier builder. They still hit better than a lot of others out there.

uh... dynomat???? are you serious? i picked a pack of that up one time and as soon as it was off the ground i knew i would never put something that heavy in my car.

so are alpine type R's..

what do you think?

I have 2 10" Alpine Type-R's and love them. Those things hit like crazy and are very clean sounding. I am powering them with the Alpine MRD-500 Mono Sub amp.

I recently went to a S.L.A.P show and the judge talked me into entering the car in the dB contest and it registered 136dB. I'm not a big dB (more into SQ) but I believe that's some pretty good numbers for 2 10's at 500 Watts.

I have Fusion Power Plants. Fusion makes great subs for the money. Audio Bahns are bad! I know a kid with 3 12" Flame Series. Its so loud. Kicker L7's are sweet, too. Of course JL W7 is great. If I was going to build a huge system I would use Fusion for the subs. Mine sound great.

my friend, you need to do some research. Strokers, given the correct enclosure can sound amazing. In fact, they have won their share of Sound Quality World Championships in years past in IASCA and USACi.
but yes they can also get loud :D

Here at home there is a kid with 3 12" Alpine Type R's in his S10, it hits about 156 dB...so yea, they're good. There is also a girl running 2 12" Audiobahns who hit 151 at the last show..no joke. Diamond M6's are pretty bad ass. Also, Rockford Fosgate -I'm not sure what model- but they can be bad ass. One of our audio places has an old CRX with 4 12" Fosgates hitting 164 dB, its nuts.

So, in no particular order....

Alpine Type-R
Audiobahn (depending on what model)
Rockford Fosgate
Diamond M6
JL W-anything

I'm sayin alpine type R all the way, then JL, then eclipse, then kicker, and kove

fosgate are piss poor when it comes to SQ:barf:

Strokers are ugly too, yeah they sound nice but look like tits with huge nipples.

I had two 10" alpine type Rs, we'll there sitting in my basement. they were really clean, not that loud though. I wasnt that impressed. I love my 15" BMF

what type meters were these recorded on? kuz that makes a huge difference. And also about the crx, that is most likely the easiest car in the U.S. to get extremely loud, they are crazy :D

When the 2 Audiobahn's hit 151, the meters were running pretty high. When the CRX hit 164 and the S10 hit 156, they were right on.

Oh, as to what type of meter, I'm not sure. There are a few pics of the CRX on the Audio Plus website HERE

i'm not really into audio shit and stuff..i just wanted a small sub that had bass to it.. i bought a round 10" kicker solobaric sub and it's powered by a rockford fosgate punch 360.2 amp. it hits pretty hard for being only 10" but i dont know how my kicker solobaric compares..i just saw it cheap and bought it..seems great.. people say kicker is a good brand..but i'm not into stereo stuff so i dont know how my system rates with other small 10" systems.

I had to rockford fosgate XLC 12"s in my other car and they saounded pretty good compared to other brands. I am now putting to Kicker SoloBaric 12" L7s in my eclipse. I heard the older model solobarics and thought they GREAT. So now i'm trying the news solobarics out.

I also have heard great things about JLs, especially the W7s.

In my eclipse I run kicker solo's and a crossfire amp. Everytime I meter it it kits in the mid 150's and has hit in low 160's. It is 2 l5 15's and a vr2000d amp (true 2000w RMS @ 2ohms at 12.7 volts) I have problems with the Wing comes apart b/c the bolts vibrate out with and kind of thread locker on them, hatch latch comes loose, and the back glass leaks now. Also the sunroof rattles when it drops and the steering wheels shakes excessively.

In my opinion top 5 subs:
Kicker Solo-X
Kicker solobaric (l5 or l7)
Earthquake magma
Resonant Engineering (mainly XXX)
mmats juggernaut (quad or dual VC)

Top amps:
Crossfire (class D's)
Earthquake "D" series
memphis (some of them)
old PPI
Zapco

I'm running two cheapo 200 watt profile 10" bajas in a bandpass. I'm looking into a new box because I can tell exactly where the box is tuned and where it falls off. Other than that, they really aren't incredibly bad, even though they aren't great. They aren't too loud to be obnoxious but I can get a lot of bass in the cockpit of my car.

What do y'all think about Pioneer subs? I haven't heard anyone say anything either way. I'm more into SQ than SPL, but would like to bump every once in a while. Mostly, I'm on a budget so I can't afford to go for super high end stuff. I have a 600 watt amp so I could power a pair of TS-W29C 450W 10" speakers, but not a whole lot more.

i had 2o 10" fosgate xlc's (discontinued) running off of a phoenix gold xs 2500 amp and the base hit hard and was clean. this was in my wifes mazda.

Brendon:dsm:

Car show today I hit 142.0 dB.....not bad for W0's.

so of the best deep sounding subs for the buck is Kicker Comp VR's my boy ahs them in his stang, bangs it ass off with a weak sub channel off of a eclipse 5 channel amp.

If any of you smucks think that audiobahn is weak, it just shows your experience with good quality...Plus if you think that Kenwood makes good subs, your smokin... All of the manufacturers on the market have low end items, so if that's what your talking about that's cool, I agree with you, but if you are talking about there HIGH Excursion series your out of your mind! Just to add, I have not heard anyone talk about IMPP? Just a question...

W7's i like but are way to expensive. All you need is one 10 and you are set

ya right now i got 1 L5 15 running with a fosgate 601S amp (1500watt, 950 RMS). sounds like no other. getting an L7 to repace the L5. :) weith the L5 i hit about 150 on the meter with the L7, little more probably.

1: kicker X (way way way too expensive)
2: kicker solbaric series
3: JL Audio
4: Phoenix Gold
5: Eclipse

Everyone here in cali loves audiobahns which are POS. i hate those subs with a passion and it is so funny to see peps running them showing off to people. then i roll by with my kicker, lets just say they got mad. :) id say kicker are #1 all the way. there amps are up there too :)

and vertGST, it hit hard mostly do to the amp. Phoenix Gold amps are reallly really good quality.

i have two 10" DIAMOND CM3's and soon a sealed box for them but no amp yet. what you guys think?:dsm:
