Hey, I am going to be doing a rebuild on my engine because I blew something up after 155,000 miles, and was wondering if you guys have a list somewhere or can help me out on what kind of tools I will need? Me and my freind who builds drag cars will be helping me out with the rebuild, but before we start I need to get the proper tools. I realize thier going to be alot of money thats cool.

Do you need to or want to install oversized pistons and rods, new crankshaft? Rebuilding the head? Balancing the bottom end? What exactly do you mean something blew up? Just need more info on what you mean by a rebuild.

Thanks.

just do a basic rebuild, my rod got unbalanced and ####ed it up, I can do all the honing and stuff at school. Just in general, what tools should I buy for a rebuild, and metric right? Even tho im NT with the 420a?

:talon: probably valve float followed by a snapped timing belt after redline...not something to do with stock springs, balance shafts...but here you go... Micrometer set, Dial indicator set, Calipers, Hand operated vacuum pump, timing gun, spark plug compression guage, hydaulic lifter removal tool, valve spring compressors, piston ring installer, ring compressor, cylinder hone (you mentioned school), and most likely a tap and die...you never know with the old studs how they'll hold up. but I also think that you should need a special spark plug tool? correct me if I am wrong, but they are IN there...happy rebuild! :thumb:

I second that list then. I would add a beam style in-lb torque wrench and a dial or beam style ft-lb torque wrench, torch to apply heat for removing studs, you may need a c-clamp or vise to compress the auto-tensioner.

Some of this stuff is optional but makes things quite easier.
