Took turbo apart, found out that I have a small 16g, what next?

I still have much to learn and it is frustrating like anything else but the previous owner advised that the turbo was a Big 16g whereas I measured that impeller with a dial caliper and discovered that it is a Small 16g.

There are plenty of people that love the Small 16g, but I probably want to go with a Big 16g or EVOIII 16g for a few reasons:

1) Heavier GVR-4
2) Figure that it might be nicer to the 3 bolt Rear LSD that I am in no hurry to replace.
3) Probably better suited to the larger 40mm Tial Wastegate on the car.
4) Tired of "boost fade" e.g. setting the boost at 22 psi and having it fade to 17 psi (I know that the s16g doing that is subjective but I think it has something to do with my problem).

So my question is....provided that the center isn't "junk", wouldn't I have to have some machine work done to have either a B16g or E316g compressor wheel fit in there?

Sorry for the basic question, but I am learning. :)

Thank you

FYI, you didn't have to take it apart and measure to figure it out, you could just read the number off the compressor housing. It's most likely cheaper to sell what you've got and pick up a used big/evo 16g. To answer your question, though, the small 16g has a smaller exducer, so the center housing would need to be machined to clear the larger wheel in addition to machining the compressor housing.

That is true, but I am scientific. I know I can read the number off the compressor but figured since I was told it was a B16g that someone might have gone through that process. Center housing...did you mean cover? Sorry, learning and trying to get my terminologies correct. That is what I am leaning towards...selling it or even going with a s16g again due to the capacity of my current injectors and fuel pump.

My favorite is JE Pistons and Eagle Rods...you won't know until you tear it down!

Hey, originally I was told that my car had a 14b, and I ended up getting a 13g! Yeah, you didn't get it so bad LOL.

Honestly i dont see upgrading from a s16g to a b16g worth the cost and hassle, no matter how small that might be. Maybe the 68hta, maybe.

After a 16g id go holset hx35 in a bep bolt on housing. It appears you have the supporting mods for it, and im betting you would be much happier with the end result.

Thank you, leaning towards rebuilding my s16g or sending off to Justin if the center isn't "junk". This way I don't have to worry about running out of injector.

I haven't torn it down enough to determine whether or not it is "junk" though.
