Too good to be true?? Turbo Shopping

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

Some people have had some "luck" with the Ebay 16g's, but it seems to be hit and miss.
It could be they aren't(or dont know how to)prepping the turbo right or priming it with oil properly.
Or it could be as some people say, the metal is sub-par and the machining isnt held to great enough tolerence.
BUT, I havent seen to much on the 20g's, so i would be very cautious, in fact I wouldn't do it.
But thats just my opinion, I have nothing to gain either way.
Good luck

the weird things is its marked as a e3 16g nut its a 20g, i would not trust that exhaust manifold at all

whew, thanks guys....still shopping, im still new to the turbo thing and was shopping, is a hx40.....itsn't that a cummins turbo diesel?? Hows the plumping? Bolt right on?? im lookin at 400+ eventually 20gs just bolt right up with a couple of other mods?? still kinda new and confused

the Hx40 turbo will require a bep dsm style housing made for the holset hx40. They are around 180-225 new. The hx35 will do everything you need and can make over 400hp. It will also spool faster then the 20g. The hx40 is for 500+ hp

Don't take this the wrong way, but a HX40 is a little too advanced for a turbo noob.

  • They do not bolt to the stock manifold without the purchase of a Bullseye turbine housing.
  • Require the use of an external wastegate. If you're thinking of using a HX40 with an internal gate, you need to find a smaller turbo.
  • Requires at least 25psi to make any noticeable airflow. This requires head studs and a good gasket at the very least, as well as 850cc+ injectors and some advanced tuning strategies.

Stick with a 16G/20G for now. Baby steps, son.
