too big of a pump

A guy here in town is selling a brand new walboro 255 for 60 bucks. I was gunna buy a 190 today, just order it off the internet. But since its much cheaper to just go pick it up from this guy, im leaning towards buyin the 255 if its not too large of a pump. I'm all stock with stock injectors for now. Will be ordering 550 or 650s pretty soon.

Will the 255 be too large of a pump? My car is a DD and i am going to treat it as such, but want to add a little more horsepower. My goal is somehwere between 250-300. I do have a logger but nothing to tune with.

Without anyting to tune, would it be absolutely neccessary to also get a FPR if I do get the 255?
 
That's a great start for a fuel system!! I got the best advice I'm ever got in my life form a guy and he said just get the best right away because you going to spend at least double if not triple your money my just going one size up in pump/injectors. What I'm gettin to is go big cause you can always turn down to a point LOL
 
You won't hit the 250-300hp area without some sort of forced induction or swapping in a V-8. Bigger injectors without tuning will run way to rich, but won't help HP numbers much.
 
A 190lph pump is plenty for your goals (of ~300 hp) but $60 for a 255lph is a pretty good deal for a brand new one. You have a ways to go before you need more pump than a 255 can offer.

Also, when you do get that 255, go ahead and just upgrade your FPR. Avoid problems later on and get it done all at once.

Some do get away with out that mod, but general knowlage says get it.

Look at other mods before the fuel pump.

Untill you can get more air in and out of the engine, do not worry about a fuel pump.

Cams, more compression, intake and exhaust will net you more before you need to go to fuel mods.

To the OP.

Save your self some money to use it for some other parts, a 190 will do the job, But, also if you just rewire your stock pump, it will hold a lot more boost and is a Free Mod..

If you are planning going bigger injectors, then you need some sore of tuning device.

Save the money, mod something else (inducer, exhaust, tuning device),,, after modding the rest, and going bigger, then you can upgrade your fuel system.

Buying a fuel pump on a stock car, is like buying a huge turbo with out the required mods (useless).

If your stock pump is bad, than a 190 is much cheaper than stock and will work without an AFPR. But if yours is good, just rewire it. A 255 can be run without an AFPR, but older FPR's from the 1-g's tend to give up eventually.
 
Im very sorry yall, i havent updated my profile. The n/t spun a rod bearring, i sold it for parts. Bought a 1992 fwd TSI. Completely stock with the exception of a 2.5" downpipe and cat delete.

Went ahead and bought the 255. Couldnt pass it up and like said above, if I decide to go much bigger in the future ill already have more fuel as opposed to having to upgrade again.

Thanks though for all the input and I apologize again for the confusion.
 
You will want to re-wire it from the git-go too. Running it with all stock wiring will have it whining when you are idling. The rewire will help this.
 
FYI all dsms in Canada came with 90 amp alternators for daytime running lights.

You don't have to go with a galant alternator. You can simply buy the 90 amp just like the 65 and 75 amp.
 
No, you cannot run a 255 without an AFPR. It's not a matter of "breaking" the stock FPR, it's a matter of flowing too much fuel for the stock FPR to handle. You will run rich at idle and wash the oil with fuel. Just because something doesn't break right away doesn't mean it works.

IT actually can and has been done by many people, don't say that it can't be done. Also you aren't going to be rich enough to cause any real problems, it will definitely effect fuel mileage thou
