My car will be on the road this week, so just now finishing the build (FP3065, FP2 cams, 9:1 CR, .30 over pistons etc.) This car will be seeing between the 400-500whp range, depending on how much boost I want to run.

Just a few weeks ago, I discovered that the Shep. tranny that's in the car (came with it when I bought it) does NOT have a LSD. I had some solid mounts made for the car, so the wheel hop is eliminated....but I'll still be spinning like crazy.

I was just wondering if anyone was in my same situation that doesn't have a LSD with a FWD car, and was wanting to know how bad the torque steer was? My car put down 270whp, and I had no trouble with with it then...but this is a HUGE hp increase over the old setup. Any insight on this?

Like dsm-onster, i ran our LSD insert for years. In my 400whp FWD 1g, and now my 500whp FWD 2g....both on stock trans that never broke (or havent broke YET LOL).

If you already have a shep trans, which i really have an odd feeling about seeings theres no LSD in it, i didnt even think it was an option to get a built FWD trans from him without an LSD...but regardless, since you have a big boy trans already, get a wavetrac diff. Theyre fairly inexpensive and its what shep offers now a days in the builds.

save for the limited slip. it will help you in the long run. Here is a great track tip if you are afraid of hitting the wall because the car is pulling towards it, get in the opposing lane so it steers away. I know you don't want to take out another driver, but launch lighter and control that car until you are comfortable with it.

Alright i might have to ride up there and get a 55 gallon drum of it LOL

TRE installed this ripgrip lsd insert

YouTube - breaking transmission eclipse gst

Just save up for a quaife lsd.

Painful to watch. Also not smart. He was spreading oil down the whole track. Also by driving on it he probably washed out the rest of the transmission with the hardened spider gears.

I find it hard to believe that Jon at TRE would say you wouldn't break the diff. Maybe he meant literally his pressure plate insert thingeyymobob. However you will still tear the crap out of those spider gears with wheel hop that FWD's love to generate.

Extremepsi has a 2g quife for $810 or so on their site. The OP might want to give them a call.

Closest place is Charlottesville.

As far as the LSD. Probably wouldn't chance the insert even though it is the cheapest route. It is definitely a Shep because I emailed him with the previous owner's information and he verified it. I can see if I can find the email.

Your going to need slicks on the track. Until you get the LSD I would stick to the street tires and avoid any launch.

In C'ville they sell it at the shell station on the corner of Greenbrier and 29. Acroos the highway from where I work.

yeah that kinda sucks because charlottesville isnt very close

i didnt realize what happened, i figured maybe i broke an axle and i would try to limp it back to the truck.

649whp/444wtq, stock open diff, stock axels, stock rebuilt trans. I run the car on the street alot and didnt like the idea of a "ripgrip" shredding itself into the trans at 100+mph, causing the car too steer directly into the other lane and possibly injuring/hurting myself or the car. Same goes for the Kaaz LSD when it breaks, its just is not a safe idea, if the axle snaps, it sends 100% of the power to the other side of the axle (ripgrip too), you will have 0% control of the car and YOU WILL LIKELY END UP IN THE WALL. Invest in a boost by gear setup (ECMlink V3) now offers it, its the best thing going right now.

Torque steer was negligible on my 94 with the equal length halfshaft swap.

I don't think there is an option to do this for 2G's, correct me if I'm wrong.
you can use the awd drive, driver side axle on a fwd 2g

Not with out changing to an awd or a 1990-1992 fwd front diff. The front axles are smaller in diameter for awd and early 1g fwd than a 1993-1999 fwd.

This can help with torquesteer. But then you run into another problem. When you start to get decent traction, you'll snap those smaller diameter axles very quickly and frequently.

I actually did this mod in my 2g fwd, 1g awd kaaz lsd, itermediate shaft and awd front axles. there are a couple other mods required but this is the jist of it.

I did this aware of the axle destruction possibility but this winter i will be going with either dss or raxle awd front axles. I just hope they hold up for a couple passed this year.
