(TAKING A DEEP BREATH)

why on earth yould you buy a buschur FMIC? its the exact same kit *but* the IRC kit has much better end tanks and welds. the piping lenth is the same, and the configuration is the same. you get all the same parts in the kit. (slim fan, piping, overflow bottle, t-body elbow, bov gasket and t-body elbow gasket).

I will talk to Nate today ad have him call you. He has been real busy and his computer took a dump last week. He is coming over tonight and I am rebuilding it for him. I'll call him today though and make sure he calls you. If you don't mind, email me your number at [email protected] and I will make sure he calls you. I'll have he get pricing on the other stuff you are loking at too.

The IRC kit is the same as BR, but cheaper and better quality, just like JDMAWD mentioned. the street core is all you would need unless you were gunning for 10s. I say you go for the IRC.

I live in NJ and I did go to Jeff once. He is a super nice guy but is very busy all the time. I went to him when i first started in DSMs and was totally mechanically retarded. I still am now, but not as bad. I do all of my own work on my cars and when I cannot, I go to DS motorsport and Nate helps me or I have some friends come over to help me. Sometimes it takes me a day to do a 4 hour job or 2 days to do an 8 hour job, but I learn that way and get more confidence. Much more rewarding when the car *I* built runs 12s or tears up the auto-x, etc.

As far as tuning, Jeff I hear, does street tuning with a wideband. He is a great tuner of these cars, his does go 10.1 afterall. Pruven now has the AWD dyno which is a big advantage. Dan Cokic at Pruven is a real nice guy who knows his stuff as well. His daily driver, more than full weight car does 11.1@128 and is going for 10s this year. their shop car goes 9s. Dyno is the best way to tune, and unlike a lot of shops, Pruven will suggest things and help you tune, whereas others will just throw your car up there and that is that. I will heading up there in a couple weeks myself.

Only thing about the 19C.... you might replace it. Speed is like a drug. You say you'll be happy with mid - high 12s. When you get there, and realize the power you make is streetable thanks to AWD and no spin, and that you can get that car into the 11s with a new turbo, you'll go 20G or green. It is inevitable. When I first started, I had my 2G I bought new in 96. Found out about CLub DSM and my goal was 13s. Well I got them. 13.3@104. now I want 12s. SO I bought a 1G, rebuilt the engine, upgraded everything, and went 16G. 12.9@105, although the car has mid - low 12s in her with better driving and more tuning. Now I am wanting a 20G or Green. 11s! It doesn't end. Now I may buy a 2nd 1G and make it an all out race car! 10s! It doesn't end! Ahhhh!!!!!

wow that sounds like me. from one stage to the next. it sure is a fun experience tho. too bad its an expensive one tho...

Damn, i had a huge post and my stupid system crashed

Okay I'll do a brief summary.

Rich, you have mail.
Okay now for everybody, thank you all for all your comments and thoughts. THis is what these forums are all about, to help the fellow enthusiast to minimize mistakes and not get raped with prices!!!!!

In terms of the BR FMIC, I am not hell bent on it. I only thought (incorrectly) that it was the best one for my application in terms of performance and price...jsut shows you what i know LOL.

If the IRC is really that cheap at $950 (correct me if i am wrong?) and is complete with all piping, silicon hoses, clamps and fan if needed then i am all for it!

Yes, you are right that I probably won't be satisfied with the performance..sigh. In fact my previous car had over 400rwhp and at times that wold not feel anything especial thorugh a 3rd gear blast. I guess what I was trying to say is that I want an EASY low to mid 12 sec car in the 1/4 that has the potential for an 11sec time slip if launched hard which i won't do!!! That's my main worry you see is the drivetrain reliability on these cars. I understand at that level you start breaking parts and rebuilding/replaching them gets super expensinve?

Okay here is my current modified list based on these comments:

1. IRC street kit complete ($950...correct?)
2. 550cc injectors (no idea how much i can get these for..whats a good price?)
3. Apex AFC (around $340-350??)

How's this look? These should be a according to my understanding a good base for when i get tired of the 19c and up it to a green turbo maybe by christmas
:D
let me know guys!! thanks
Raul

The IRC street kit is $850. The BR street core kit is $1300. There is a huge price difference.

ludachris:

Newb question but what about loren's green setup? Mid 11's @125 i'd say that's pretty good power. Granted its rumored his car is freak, but an internally gated turbo would sound like less hassle maybe even less cost to obtain/install, not to mention the emissions issues that go along with an external gate. Can you please explain otherwise? Just trying to learn... thanx.

How can you have a J-pipe? You have the T04E housing.

the indy street core came with a j-pipe, however it was not used because of my turbo setup.

Loren is an employee of FP and an excellent tuner/mechanic. I am not saying it cant be done don’t get me wrong. Shepherd ran an 11 with a 16g and a stock sidemount some people are really good. But the external gate is going to be a lot easier to try and do on your own in your driveway with no dyno and limited technical knowledge. If you look at all the really fast people Id say 90%+ are running externals that says something to me. If these Mutt guys ever hit the track maybe I will be proven wrong but I’m not so sure I will be.

here we go with this dsmtalk anti mutt redorick again the question was will an internal gate work in a hi/low boost situation in a high HP application. *not if a mutt turbo is fast or not* a wastegate, is a wastegate, is a wastegate. if you have a 40 mm external and a 40 mm internal the internal will work just as good *granted the dump tube in the 02 is port matched to the exact same size as the wastegate exit hole

Might it fit a 2G with a little help?

it's 2 SMICs welded together, but it may fit the budget restraints. Has anyone used one?

from the website: This 1st Gen DSM Street Frontmount IC is made from two stock 2g sidemount cores and measures 16x7x3 This gives 2.6 times the face area and 2.2 times the volume of the stock sidemount. End tanks are 1/8" thk aluminum. IC is TIG welded and uses stock inlet & outlet tubes. Pipes included connect to your present upper & lower pipes. Simply unbolt your stock sidemount and bolt in the new frontmount.

$500..... would put you well within the $800-900 budget range you are in... and the $300 (after shipping) you save would probably get those injectors you need...
