Ok guys, I got my 20G last night and here's my dilema:

I can get really hooked up on a Hahn Race Craft SMIC....but will that take care of the 20G's air flow capability???
If not, I will need to get an FMIC (which is a lot more money)

I read about he HRC SMIC and it is supposed to be pretty efficient, having about 270 cubic inches of cooling space (verses the stock 140 CI)

So anyone who knows a lot about this stuff....please chime in!

If you get hook up at Hahn then get the FMIC. Why don't you buy the Greddy FMIC from RRE. I think there is a sale right now too. I would rather go with Greddy then the Hahn FMIC or SMIC. IMO

Isnt the Greddy FMIC know as garbage?

I have a hahn SMIC, it works good, but I do still have the T2small on the car. What are you paying for it? I paid $350 shipped for mine used for 3k miles.

$250....but I think I might want a FMIC, after talking to a few ppl, I dont want to deal with heat soak.

However, the Greddy isn't garbage. It isnt quite as efficient as a Spearco Core, but if RRE sells them, then it can't be crap! Like I used to have an HKS SSQ that crapped out on me, I bought a Type-S from them and they were like....That's why we sell what we do, its not crap

So yeah, I trust them

270 ci of intercooler isn't that big. that's just a little more than a stock 1G sidemount. Even if it's a good deal, you might want a real FMIC later, and you'll have to pay again.

It is known for having miles and miles of piping and the core is sub-par.

Brian, the SMIC is a great buy. For the money you spend on it, it'll definately flow enough to support your 20G. However, I believe a FMIC would be better suited for your application because of the amount of mods you'll be running. I think a nice SMIC will be out of breath and get heat soak more often than need be.

Espically when the Supra sidemount is 409ci...

It may flow the air without MASSIVE pressur edrop like the stoker would, but it would still heat soak. I believe an Upgraded SMIC is only good for a SMALL 16G or smaller or 500CFM's that is it.

My samll greddy does the trick, after every race or beating I give my car I get out, check it, one endtank is HOT, the other Ice cold, works great, got the ENTIRE kit for $300, not bad.

Well, I am a grave robber, more then half of my parts came of 2G's with crank walk, my FMIC came off a BEAUTIFUL whit GS-T that got the Cancer Walk and he needed $$$$ now and i Men NOW so I said $300 plus shipping and he said word. I mean I got a Ported 2G Exhaust Manifold, Ported 02 housing, a custom made 3.0 down pipe, test pipe, and Thermal R&D Cat Back exhaust INSTALLED for $745.

Crank walk is a motivated seller, my car was never happier, my 2G will never get it.

A FMIC is better, but it blocks the radiator. That makes it completely unacceptable IMO.

Blocks the radiator, yes, causes problems? never had any problem with mine, air sill gets through, you car will be fine, No SMIC can ever compair to a FMIC, unless yu take like four of them, cut off the endtanks, weld them together, and make a FMIC, then you got something.

You want BIG boost, run a FMIC, small 15G at 16PSI, SMIC is fine, but no more.

If all you do are 1/4 mile runs then you might as well take out all your coolant to save weight cuz you ain't gonna need it. Do some real racing and you'll actually want a bigger radiator.

True.

I have a front mount and my radiator doesn't seem to react any differently as far as the temp reading and when and how often the cooling fans kick on. I do have the A'pexi GT spec FMIC with the delta fins that do let more cooling through to the radiator. You could even get the GTR core for your 1g because it will fit unlike a 2g that wants to keep the fog lights.

How about racing in 95 degree heat with 100% humidity averaging 120MPH, is that real, (I lOVE SF Highways, you can speed so much) CAR NEVER OVER HEATS, it is cool and fine, never even comes close, I have driven 6 hours strate (From jacksonville to Miami) averaging over 100MPH, needle is allways below halfway, my car runs cold.

The Lancer Evolution 1-8, R32 to R34 Nissan Skylines, Nissan Silvia S15, and many, many, many wheel to wheel racers of turbocharged vehicles in Japan speak differently.

The front end of the Eclipse is less than ideal for a front mount intercooler. That's why there's aftermarket front ends and add on vents/ducts.

Me personally, I'd be more worried about the lack of an external oil cooler. In fact, there's a guy over in Japan who track runs (As in ROAD COURSE) his GST with a huge ass FMIC and a side mount oil cooler.

Thanks guy :thumb: I am going with FMIC, It should be on within a month or so. You guys have been helpful, maybe you want to chime in on another thread of mine
