i was wondering if anyone knew sum ways to avoid the dreaded crankwalk cause i am about to start the rebuild of my 7 bolt and i do not want to run into that problem in the future. one of my friends told me to get rid of the oil squirters i am not to sure on the idea but if anyone has any info on what to do please let me know thanks

Boost can cause CW, it happened to me. I turned up the boost to 29psi on my briggs and straton and boom, all because of CW. Lol j/k

But really, if you need to run a high holding pressure plate get a twin disk.

I heard if your DSM was made before June of 1995 that you would be least of crank walk, any month after that your screwed. Belive it or not, I belive it. Cars running 208k miles on it and not a problem of crankwalk. :D
I wonder where you heard that. You mean the car build date on the door jam? I got 1994. :rocks:

No issues so far, I guess. Never done more to the engine than replace the valve cover gasket yet.

I bought the car in 2001, previous service records indicate a head gasket. Didn't mention anything else. Previous owner worked at Mobil 1, so I'm sure it's been well maintained. I've always used Mobil 1 myself.

Maybe I'll get lucky and never have the issue. I get lifter ticking on occasion. I want to swap those out when I get a chance.

We should close all currently existing crankwalk posts and ban people who make new ones without posting pictures of their digital calipers showing excessive play. So sick of this damn topic, 16 years later and we are still discussing this crap, and as usual it is still full of people who have no clue what they are talking about and probably can't even tell you what crankwalk is.

the funniest part of this thread is people are giving advice now to someone who asked the question in 2009. Crankwalk happens. My 7bolt crankwalked 2 weeks after I put a act 2600PP in. It also had a million miles on it so what do you expect. It was confirmed before trashed but don't remember the #s.

Yes it does happen. Stock everything, 140k miles, a handful of free mods, and thrust bearing grindage. Everything else in the engine and transmission were fine. The only thing damaged was the thrust bearing and the crank thrust surface. I could dig up my old 7 bolt and get some pics.
Oh yeah and yes it does happen to pulling up old threads and answering them!ROFL
