Guys -
I'm fighting flaky timing problems coupled with part-throttle knock.
I'd like to verify that my CAS is installed & indexed properly.

I cannot get my base timing under 7 degrees BDC (yes, I grounded the timing connector on the firewall). The CAS is turned all the way counterclockwise but won't go any farther because the connector is hitting the TB elbow bracket & the CAS is maxed out in its adjustment bracket.
My Haynes manual doesn't help - timing adjustment is in there, but not CAS replacement.
Could you throw a little practical knowledge/experience my way?
Thanks!

The CAS can only go into the cam two ways, correctly and 180 degrees off.

Make sure that you are really grounding the pin for the timing adjust connector and not the plastic guard and that you have disconnected any datalogger (grounding pin 10 on the DLC at the same time will set the BISS adjustment mode not timing adjust mode)

If it still reads 7 degrees at the limit of adjustment you need to check the cam timing to make sure yourtiming belt hasn't jumped a few teeth and make sure than the crank pulley (harmonic damper) hasn't split between the hub and outer ring throwing the timing mark off.

Thanks Steve,
That's exactly what I was looking for.
I did have the shop that replaced my timing belt verify that the cam pulleys were cool, but I don't think they took the lower cover off to check the crank pulley.
