Tomorrow I'm going to help my buddy swap in a stock replacement turbo on his 98 Talon.. I'll be going off the Hayne's repair manual.. but I'd appreciate any tips from the gurus that could make the job easier or go smoother.. Thanx! :thumb:

Remove the driverside fan

Spray the bolts with some penetrator NOW and TONIGHT

Get all your fluid replacements BEFORE you start. ;)

It is pretty straight forward. The first thing I ever did with my car was a turbo replacement by myself and it goes in order. Just be prepared to have a standby car for the occasianal store run and food run. (See fluid statement) :p

its pretty easy, i am in the middle of a t28 swap, which is basicly the same thing, and ive never done it before. as for stuff i had to remove to make the job easier/possible- the dipstick, both heat shields, a plastic trim peice near the wheel well, and i just took out the whole radiator too. it comes out almost as easily as removing the fan, you get a chance to clean it, and it makes the swap that much easier because you have a lot more room to work with. unbolting the turbo from the o2 housing would have been a much bigger pain in the ass with it in there. as for tools- have a full set of metric wrenches, sockets, a large breaker bar, a torque wrench, a bucket to catch the shitloads of coolant that come spewing out when you disconnect your water lines, a light of some sort, new coolant and oil/filter.. oh yeah, and a fuel line wrench.. probably not necessary but it made disconnecting the oil feed line from the turbo a lot easier, use it if you got it :)

its an easy job, just take your time and be careful.. nothing to it
