Timing

if your a tooth off then you need to take the timing belt off and redo it to where everything lines up. Why do you think your a FEW teeth off? A few teeth can mean piston to valve interferance! Figure out how bad your off.

you dont have to loosen anythign to turn it over to get it all lined up. Turn the crank by hand to get everything in line, or close. then you will see how far you are off, or what is off exactly. I do recomend taking out the spark plugs to spin it by hand though, make it so much easier. You can also use a 17mm i believe on the the crank sprocket and turn it that way.

Question was.. once I determine how far off I am.. how would I get it back into alignment. I read over the vfaq, and it states that you should put everything into alignment before removing the old belts. How would I get the timing back on.. if its off in the first place

gotta take the belt back off, then tweak whatever isnt aligned to get it where it should be, then slip the belt back on. but first you gotta get it as close as possible.

Okay.. with the belts off, I then just do it all by hand correct?.. thanks for the help man. I was in here takin a break.. was startin to get frustrated.. and now I am still frustrated.. hehe.. kings just lost :(

yeah kings suck!! GO BULLS!!! LOL jk

Yeah with the belt off you just tweak everything by hand. The cam sprockets can be a lil tricky because they try to force themselves forward because of the valve springs. So take 2 wrenches and have you or a buddy hold the cams in time while you or your buddy slips the belt on. Once you do that, clip something onto the belt and sprocket like vise grips just so you know it wont slip off while you are lining up everything else

good luck, while you are out doing that.. im gonna go pop in the simpsons and lay in bed :D Have fun!

line everything up at tdc. Then take the timing belt off and balance shaft belt if need be and move whatever needs to be moved to time it right. Then put the belts back on. :thumb:
