I have a 99 Eclipse GSX with a 7-bolt motor no balance shafts and I just redid my timing belt because I noticed that the tension was off and it did indeed have the wrong tensioner installed. I got it all put back together and running again.
Although I got it running, the AFR gauge was reading lean. So I figured I need to double check everything including the timing and what not.
I have a 1g CAS installed with the correct harness, also checked to be sure the CAS wasn’t 180 out.
My question is how do you go about timing these engines with using ECMLink and grounding the pin to ECU? What’re the procedures so I can be sure my car is timing correctly?
Let me know if this is something to worry about first or to be sure my tune is all good and then go back to timing ? I believe my tune needs to be looked at as well but I’m not sure where to start; the tune or timing ? Will timing the car while it’s leaning out hurt the motor or?
FYI the car is timed correctly. I triple checked that part before installing the timing cover.
Thanks, Mike
