OK, I am puting my motor back together and put the head on today. Tomorrow I am going to reinstall the timing belt. I would just like to get some advice on getting the right timing. I have installed my timing belt before but nothing moved because thats all I was doing. I did remove the balance shafts. The cams have not moved since I removed the timing bekt(I used a pair of vice grips to hold them). I was reading that if the oil pump is 180 out then there will be a rough idle. Is there a way to check this before puting the motor back into the car? Also cylender 1 (timing side) is suposed to be tdc right?
Thanks for any and all tips and advice,
JB

If you've gotten rid of the balance shafts (front and rear), it shouldn't matter where the oil pump arrow is lined up because there's no rear shaft to align. When I did mine, I just put the belt on the oil pump, cyl #1 at TDC, and the timing marks on the cams pointing at each other. Tensioned it all and called it a day. :thumb:
