I am truely a newbie to the site. I am used to working on older muscle cars and rear wheel drives. I recently bought my son a 95 eclipse gsx 2.0 turbo. It came with a strut bar that wasn't installed. My son installed it and in a couple weeks it had knocked off one of the cams. Fortunately there was no damage to the cam but the timing belt came off. We got it home and tore it down following the chiltons guide and reading up on a few posts on this forum we got all the timing marks set pulled the plug and did the screwdriver trick to make sure the oil sprocket was in proper time as well. We put it back together but it won't start. Tore it down again, double checked all the timing marks put it back together and still nothing. Engine will turn over but won't start. Any thoughts or suggestions on what went wrong.

Hmmm, u mean it knocked off one of the cam gears? Either way, if the timing belt came off then I have bad news. Its an interference motor and you probably need some new valves and head work. The RPM it came off at will determine the extent of the damage.

Do a compression test, a boost leak test and make sure that everything you guys toook off is connected.
Let's hope no valves were bent (more likely this is what happened)
What mods are in the car?

Either way these engine are low clearance between the head and block.
Its matter of luck if valves were bent or not.
If you son tried cranking the engine after it happened the I would say there is a 99% chance that it indeed bent some valves.
Do your best to try and start the engine before you decide to pull the head.

We have tried to start it, it turns over but dosent even try to start after a few seconds it gives a faint pop like a small back fire and that's it.

Sounds like that should be the next step. Haven't worked on an engine for a few years, need to go buy a tester. Time to stock up the tool chest again.

0 psi all 4 cylinders.... Ouch.
