timing belt slip

At fitst they were right cause I drove it home an hour away. And once I went hard it shut down . Noticed timig marks are now off about 10 teeth. What could have caused this and what all could have happened to the internals. Would this be my mechanics fault.

Maybe it wasn't tensioned right. 10 teeth is definitely enough to have screwed something up internally. Your mechanic could be to blame but it might be difficult pinning it on him.

Tensioners too old or the timing belt was way over due. Or Maybe BS belt tangled up at the bottom where you can't see it yet if you haven't torn the lower cover off. Time to search for deals on rebuilt heads

Sounds like what happened to my 1g, I was driving it around all day at normal speeds. Was driving downtown and it just died. Tried/looked at everything, couldn't figure out why it died, so got it towed home. Pulled the timing cover off and it had slipped 13 teeth, ate them right off the belt.
