Timing Belt Question..

So this is my first timing belt install on a dsm and I have read about 30 posts on it but I think I messed up, here are some pics with the cam marks lined up

Looks like you might be off by a tooth. Just loosen the tensioner and bring it back a tooth. Also you know that to line the oil pump its more than just one revolution. I believe its 3 not absolutely positive. Don't have the book with me.
 
I know you're not going to want to hear this but you're going to have to start all over. By that I mean loosen the T belt and reposition the exhaust cam. Just for future reference, the Jay Racing T belt tool kit makes T belt jobs ALOT easier. You can also use a bolt to keep the cams still while installing the belt. BTW, just by looking at the first picture, I can tell that the cams aren't lined up perfectly. The marks should line up a little more down like this.

yea there is no way around it. sorry bro you have to do it over. sorry i wasn't specific enough in my first post. but with the engine being out of the car it is not hard at all. Sometimes when there is too much slack on the belt the marks will be off. you have to make sure the belt has slack only on tensioner side.
 
I just dont get it because I had everything lined up before I started turning the crank

Simple, you didn't have all the slack out of the belt and off a tooth because of it. When you started turning it over all tension equalized and you discover your off.

When you put the belt on where did you start?

I always do the exhaust cam first, then work clockwise backing each sprocket up a half tooth or so to make it easier to get the belt on. I then rotate the sprocket forward and if it goes past it's timing mark without moving everything else you know that the belt wasn't tight between this one and the last. By the time your turning the tensioner pulley to take up the remaining slack and tension the belt everything else will be spot on.

If you still have the balance shafts installed, don't forget to verify the rear shaft phasing before putting the timing belt on. The details are in the TB VFAQ.

Ya, it's a bugger to get those marks to totally get aligned up, so be patient with it. At least you got it easy with the motor out of the car and on a workstand. Lot of us have the car to deal with..

I used the trick mentioned in VFAQ: spin the oil pump sprocket til the mark is at TDC then release. if the sprocket rolls to the right, the balancer is 180* off phase and you must reroll and stop at TDC, then release. Then if the sprocket rolls to the left, you're in phase and the belt can go on.
