Something is just not right with my car. From overheating under load to stalling once off the gas. Here's some pics of my timing belt. The belt itself is in great condition. And the cam gear markings seem to be dead on at TDC. My question though is...Does my belt look off to anyone? Should there really be that much play in the belt? Thanks in advance.

Yea, the belt will get loose after sitting for as little as 10 min. As soon as you crank it a few times or start it, it will get tight.

Overheating under load, either sounds like a bad radiator, or you are having alot of ignition retard and its heating up the exhaust ALOT. Do you have power when under boost? or does it just taper off and not accelerate that much?

Yes, I have power under boost like it should. And I would check the VFAQ for Timing Belt Replacement if I were changing the timing belt, but I'm not.

So, I'm thinking of checking with a gun and probably advance timing a tad. May or may not help, just wondering if anyone else has ran into this issue.

I haven't been able to find a vacuum leak. Though if I do have one, it feels like it may be in the brake system, kinda harsh braking when applied. But yea, when I come to a stop, car dies unless I'm giving it throttle.

I am currently doing the timing belt on my motor and with the proper tension my new belt doesn't move like that. You are right to be concerned. If i were you I would check the distance the auto tensioner is protruding. Standard value i'm fairly certain is between 3.8 and 4.5mm- but i would double check your manual just to be sure.

Thanks for that info. I didn't think there should be that much play on the belt, but wasn't sure with this motor.
