Hey guys. Im new here, but not to dsm's I have a 98 gst which i did a 6bolt swap in. The car ran fine for about 5 mins on initial startup then quit on me, and when i try to start it, smoke comes from the intake manifold. The first thing i assumed was timing, so i took off the timing belt and did the timing job again, but maybe i just dont know how to do it right

are there any specific ways that the tensioner pulley/grenadepin work i might over look
or any tricks to getting the cams in time (they are FP 272's) they look in time to me but might not be since the car wont run,

it also ran initially but doesnt look like it has jumped time, but i still redid the timing job anyways. thanks!

also i did read the vfaq! great stuff!

What about your IAC and you TPS, have you tried messing with those or the CAS, maybe something is just off...tuning is a pain its always something small. And if you did a swap please go over all your wires and connections just to be sure you did not miss anything, I had a very small vac line not on my car and that was enough unmetered air to piss the car off and not let it run right...Can you get the running long enough to put a timing light on it?

When it ran we were trying to do the timing light, but it wouldnt stay on. Yeah i changed the TPS, but not the IAC.

your IAC could be bad, or not readin for some reason on your swap, after all it controls your idle....and here it is "boost leak" check, I hate saying that but at times it is needed to track down those bad lines

well it started, i adjusted the cas and it seems to run steadily. i have it advanced so its idling high right now, but its idling consistent

does that mean i got my timing right since its not pulsing or anything? sounds good actually
