Okay so guys, I have a 1997 Eclipse GS, 2.0 DOHC Non-turbo, and I know the timing belt jumped, it tends to die if I drive it over a certain distance, and when it dies it will not start for a bit, and as strange as it sounds I have to redo the firing order sometimes just to get it so start back. now I looked at the belt and i can't see any bad teeth or don't feel any slack, but it's very clear the cam gears are not lined up and I know it is an interference engine, I just wanted to know the possible damage that can come with it, and how hard of a replacement it is, or how much someone will charge. please and thank you guys

i jumped two teeth on my 4g63t and it mangled 12 out of the 16 valves and the other 4 were bent very bad. do a compression test, then a cylinder leakdown test. can almost garuntee your head and pistions are going to look mangled if you've been driving it with a skipped tooth. shocked it still runs being a tooth out

i did a full rebuild. but i did contact Strictly Import Motorsports and they are currently building me a long block. i believe the stage one build is around 3 grand

It could be possibly you skipped a tooth on the intake cam, and it is opening too late?
I had this happen when i was putting my timing belt back on, i may have gotten lucky, but all that happened was it would bog down, and run rich as hell. valves/pistons are in ok shape minus the carbon buildup from the too rich mixture.

Broken/slipped timing belt

Installing/replacing a timing belt
IDK if this one will help much unless your engine is the 6bolt.

Base Timing

it is possible, but if you look into those suggested links you'l see that the valves can break off and damage the cylinder walls and pistons as well.

Are you positive that you are aligning all 3 timing locations? Crank and both cams? Doesn't sound like timing. If timing is off it will be a consistent problem. It will not come and go with driving.

i forgot to mention it was a 5 speed not sure if it matters or not, and i plan on it, i was gonna put a new water pump, and new tensionrs while i was at it, kinda off topic, but what could make a speedometer, odometer, and cruise control not work other than the speed sensor,
