I need some help with this timing belt install. I am a first timer.
To start off I have replaced the balance shaft belt no problem, water pump and new tensioner pulley and idler pulley. So the problem I'm having is when I go to tension the belt through the tensioner pulley, the cams move out of time. So I proceed to remove tension from the belt and line everything up again crank, oil sprocket etc. Then I try putting the exhaust cam off one tooth like vfaq's tells me to do, with everything lined up on the correct timing marks. So, I again proceed to tension the belt with the pulley and great the cam marks line up so I tighten the bolt on the tensioner pulley, then I loosen the tool that pushes on the tensioner arm and when I loosen that the cams go off of their proper alignment.
This is getting very frustrating I'm loosing patience here. What am I doing wrong? I keep re-doing each step over and over and I get the same results everytime. Please help me
