I had my TB fail. I installed a new belt and lined up all the marks. I rotated the crank at the crank bolt 3 times with no problems but on the 4th rotation there was resistance. Two revolutions is a complete cycle (minus the oil pump) so I don't see why the 4th rev wouldn't go. I realize I may have valve damage but why 3 but not 4? BTW: 4th rev got a little past 1/2.

EDIT: I removed the spark plugs.

what could happen if your tb is slippin off? mine is like halfway on the cams, put sliding off toward the engine :pray:

It could come off and you'd be in the same boat I'm in right now. I suspect that your TB tensioner bearing, idler pulley bearing or pivot arm is worn. Get a Timing Belt Kit and fix it ASAP. Don't just let it go until it fails like I did.:nono:
 
More Than Likely You Have Bent Exhaust Valves. 1=intake 2=power 3=compresion 4=exhaust. On The Forth Rotation You Motor Is Trying To Open Your Exhaust Valves And Is Receving Resistance Because Of Bent Valves That Can No Longer Slide In The Valve Guides Properly. I May Be Wrong And You Could Have Another Underlying Problem But It Sounds To Me That The Head Needs To Come Off For Some Work.
 
Just Went Back And Read Your Original Post Are You Talking Full Revolutions Or Cycles? If Its Full Revolutions Who Knows Id Check It With The Spark Plugs Out And Make Sure Its Not Compression Your Feeling
I was referring to 3-1/2 full revolutions at the crank sprocket. Two revolutions at the crank would be 1 full rotation of the cams so why was I able to make two full revs and then have a problem at 3-1/2? BTW: I had the plugs out. It's more than compression because the first 3 revs were fairly easy.
 
Is it constant? Have you gone a full 4 and then another 4? and it happens every time?
I am currently stuck at 3-1/2. It won't rotate 4 times. I can't go forward and I'm not supposed to rotate the engine counterclockwise. I am going to pull the head tomorrow.
