Time To Upgrade! GT35R BB vs. FP3065

Ok, well i think it about time i bi*** the tdo5 crap and go big. I have been looking around adn have my eyes on a couple different turbos. One would be the FP3065 and the other the GT35RBB. Im not sure which i should lean at. So I figure I'd ask you all what you think I should do with my scenario here. I also planning on doing all the fuel mods at the same time so I'd like to know what kinda injectors i should grab for 20-25psi on either one of these huge arse turbos. Mods are updated int he profile fro reference.

Well the 3065 can make about 550whp and the gt35r can make about 630whp and you will need a new manifold. But lots of supporting mods are needed to use these turbo's to their fullest.

Both turbos have the same the compressor wheels and flow the same amount of air. The only difference is in the turbine side. The wheel is bigger in the GT35R and you have a choice of A/R for the garrett housing on the 35R. FP has spent a lot of time on their turbine housing and has proven over and over that it can hit 9's in 1/4.

You can use the SBR GT35R and it will bolt right up to everything but lines. This is the way I plan on going once my parts arrive.

950's are a better match. 680's would end up being ran at > 100% DC, and while people have proven that you can get away with that, it's generally not recomended.

FP3565 = GT35r in a FP bolt on housing. The FP housing really is a nice piece of equipment.

I was under the influence that PTE made the gt35r. And it reads that i can bolt it right up to my evo3 manni. Ill just need to get the oil and water line kits to install. I wouldn't go with a bolt on housing except for the FP housing if I'm spending this kind of money on a turbo, my SBR GT12 should to going to FP soon for either a FP or full Garrett conversion.

I am also plannin on running internal gate on it due to not wanting to hassle around with springs, I just want to adjust my boost controller to set the boost no thave to take spirngs out and what not.

Also whats the differences in the 2 a/r choices. I mean like pros and cons of each for this app. .48 ad .63

What's up? If you're going with a bolt on setup, don't expect full potentials out of the CHRA and make sure you go with a compressor cover with anti-surge port.

No bench racing! It all depends on the rest of your supporting mods. Be careful with the HP ratings for these bolt on turbos, most are the CHRA ratings with a Garrett housing, not with the bolt on housing.

Well, these turbos are meant for big power with high boost, we are talking 30+psi. Sure you can run lower psi but why not go with a smaller turbo for faster spool. To take full advantage of both FP3065 and GT35R, you will need minimum of 850cc and a piggyback system is out of the question, at least an eprom chip is needed but I would go with DSMLink.

Going with a .48 A/R housing on this turbo is ridiculous and I am not a huge fan of .63 either, you are creating too much exhaust back pressure to try and create a quicker spool time. FP comes with a .70 A/R and it's the same housing used on the 3052, 3065 and 3575. Shep is a believer in FP and that's more than enough for me. They have done their home work on this housing and it's a guaranteed performer.

When purchasing a turbo of this size, price, and power potential you shouldn't really have to ask these questions. We are talking about 130+ mph trap-capable units here that really aeren't for everyone.

In your profile it says you have a B16G but I dont see any "tuning device" besides the MAFT. You also have a pocketlogger and full fuel system (injectors afpr, fuel pump) in your wishlist. So you are running 14-15 psi on the stock fuel system, stock DP, and no logger? What were you using to tune? With proper supporting mods/driver/tune 16Gs have made 400hp and dipped pretty deep into the 11s. What exactly are your goals with this car? The GT35R and 3065 are massive turbos that would reqiure a ton of supporting mods and some real tuning to take advantage of, not to mention a powerband that wouldn't be the most "Street" friendly by definition.

The reason you dont want to use one of super efficient GT30 wheels in a mitsu housing is this.

The existing 7cm^2 and 8cm^2 Mitsubishi turbine housings are not only too small for the GT30 turbine wheel, but mass production design compromises such as an offset non-symetric volute and poor material made them very undesirable.

Why take such a great wheel and stuff it into a compromised housing just for the sake of compatibility?

You also plan on running an internal gate? FP's kick ass turbine housing doesnt even allow for an internal gate for obvious reasons. Running a GT35R with an internal gate is also unheard of. Although it makes some damn good pump gas numbers because it's efficiency range is soo large, it's real job is rocking out in the 30+psi range. But if you only plan on running in the 20psi range and running pump gas, there are much better, cheaper, and more sensible solutions out there.

NO, things will change all the time due to many factors, a monitoring and tuning capability is crucial at this point of the game.

These goals are easily attainable with many of the cheaper bolt-on units. As I stated in my post above the 16G can get you 12s on pump alone. Like oldman said, the other option that seems to be soo popular these days is the T04E/Mitsu flanged 50trim units. There are many companies that sell these and they are very competitively priced. They also allow the choice of a few different turbine housing designs such as SBR's PTE's and Bullseye's units. They produce very good pump gas numbers and will do what you are asking for as long as the proper supporting mods are applied and someone has tuned it correctly.

I personally woudlnt go with a 20G because of its price/vs performance of the new hybrids, but it's still definitley gets the job done.

Have you check out the 1/4 mile time on this site? Old technology doesn't mean it won't perform as it has proven that it will perform. I personally would prefer a 20G over any hybrid 50trim, at least I know it will last longer.

Yeah but part of that could be chalked up to ton of inexperienced people ordering up these super advertised units and incorrectly installing them etc. But you are ohh soo right about the good ole mitsu reliability!

Old technology? Hah! Turbos are old technology, does that make them bad? Hell no! I myself have a TD05H/20g that I have beat the piss out of and it's still running strong with minimal shaft play. Mitsu turbos are some of the most reliable turbos out there. If you want to see what a 20g can do, go look at this thread.
