I have an ACT 2100 clutch kit on the way and a new fidanza flywheel sitting right next to me. I'm wondering how long it should take a shop to install these on a gsx? My usual shop said 7 hours... Is that unreasonable because it really seems like it. I don't have the means to do it myself. 7 hours seemed like a looooong time though.

I'm in the same boat. I've got a flywheel sitting in my room and a clutch kit on the way. I'm interested in finding out how much/how long it would run me to have a shop install it since I don't have acess to a lift.

Well, a lift nearby. I'd have to get the car flatbedded an hour north if I was going to do the job.

That 7 hours is going to cost you a fortune. I'd suggest, if you have the ability to do so, then do it yourself. From beginning to end it only takes me a maximum of 2 hours, and that includes a good break for food and liquids :D

Assuming I was feeling dangerous, could I do it with just jacking the car up? What would I need for tools? I believe the alignment tool comes with the kit, correct? Luckily it's going to be for my 1g, I think I'd try to find another tuner around the santa rosa area to help me out if i decided to do it.

The first time is always a learning experience, but you might as well just do it. Just give yourself some extra time in case everything doesn't go as planned. I would replace the clutch fork and pivot ball while you're in there though, it would be unwise to leave them alone.

I too am eager to do a job like this myself. There are a few tutorials around, looks tedious but straight forward. Just have to man up and do it. Of course first time, make sure the car is not your only means of transportation, and you don't want to rush it.

That's the part that makes me nervous, I'm in college and it IS my only means of transportation. If I mess it up... I think I'll just pay to have it done, stick with the smaller stuff for now and wait until I fly back east after college and try it out on the spyder. At least then I'll have the gsx if the spyder takes longer than expected. Still sucks having to pay for it, but for now, looks like it has to be done.

He's a 2g.
1g's have it easy in this department, if I recall.
.
Actually, I have not really noticed a difference between the two. Not too hard even for a first time. Buy a chiltons, read through how to remove and reinstall your tranny, and decide from there if you feel you can do it. Pretty straight forward.
Mike

I believe the book time on a 2g clutch is around 5 hours. If you know what you're doing and have a decent set of tools including a compressor it should take you about that in your backyard. With a lift, lots of tools and much experience it can be done in about 2-3 hours.
