Alright I have searched the subject but nothing real definite answer on their transmissions. I have read alot about their engines and from what I have read it seemed like a 50 50 chance of getting a junk one. But thats engines I was wondering about transmissions. It is a transmissions and a transfer case shipped to my door for 619 I mean its real hard to decide here because that is hellicheap. Any thoughts.:hmm:

Never heard of them to be honest with you. But just from the statements that you made >>> "It is a transmissions and a transfer case shipped to my door for 619 I mean its real hard to decide here because that is hellicheap. Any thoughts."

Unless it is just a used transmission/TC like you would buy off ebay or something that is a little cheap for me to belive it is "quality work". But like I said, never heard of them so don't know anything about them beside what you just stated

If it's used, best make sure they count spooned before shipping.

That is WAY cheap for even a transmission.

yeah I know it. Arent all 95-99 have the same spline count? When it comes to transmissions I am a complete novice. I know my way around an engine fairly well, not not trannies. And yes gravedigger tiger japanese is the company I am talking about. And it is a used trannie and transfercase.

For that price though what I meant was they better give you the right count by giving you the right year. Who's to say they may mix in a 1g tranny some how?

oh i got what you are saying I was going to call them to make sure they read me the serial number off the transmission before i actually ordered it. Does anyone know the 2g transmission codes off the top of there heads or can point me in the right direction to get them.

Hopefully this helps. I found it and copied and pasted it so I can't take the credit for the info. There is also info about switching ring gears that doesn't really pertain to your question, but I found it interesting so I included it too.

The serial number stamping will say: W5M33-2-NPZT on the bellhousing. The 10th digit of the 17-digit stamped VIN number on the bellhousing will be the letter "S" or "T" meaning 1995 or 1996 respectively.

If it is stamped W5M33-2-MUZT, it is a 1997-1999 AWD 5-Speed DSM transmission, and will not directly work in the 1995-96 vehicle unless you have the matching 1997-99 transfer case, OR you disassemble the transmission and swap front differential ring gears from the 57-tooth (1997-1999 ring gear) to a 58-tooth (1990-1996 ring gear), THEN you can use any 1991-1996 23-spline transfer case from a DSM. The rear diff ratios are the same for all 2G 5-speed vehicles. The transfer case gear ratio is different from 1995-1996 vs. 1997-1999 as well as the front diff ring gear tooth count for these two age ranges. The 10th digit of the 17-digit stamped VIN number on the bellhousing will be the letter "V" or "W" or "X" meaning 1997, 1998 or 1999 respectively.

watch out for jdm transmissions, there final drive ratio is different then usdm dsm's
i was told if you change the ring and pinon from a compatiable transmission you can use one but im not positive on that. ive also asked shops about it and they say thats all you have to do to change the final drive ratio.. a jdm tranny 9 times out of 10 will have a 3.9XX final drive ratio, an eclipse or talon has a 3.545 final drive ratio.. so its best to make sure the codes match that way you know what you have.

the codes stated in the pervious post above are the only known 2g tranny codes that are a direct oem replacement.

all eclipses were made in the USA but not all 4g63 transmissions were !! you could get one easily thats has the wrong gear ratio and not even know it so be careful . Jdm importers give these " JDM " AWD transmissions out like candy not knowing and sometimes well aware that they are potentially and inevitably destroying someones car.

for example there is a mitusbishi RVR with a 4g63-t awd turbo drive train in japan, The vehicle is kinda like a kia sportage . would you want to put an suv transmission in your eclipse ? Answer is no you wouldnt..

as the saying goes 95-96 tranny 95-96 transfer case/ 97-99 tranny 97-99 transfer case, never use anything other then this combo.. npzt is 95-96 muzt is 97-99 transmissions are the only ones that are a direct replacement unless they have been professionally modified to fit or work on a 1g or 2g eclipse/talon/laser

" oh and just so everyone who reads this knows the jdm transfer cases are probably not compatiable eathier , just because it has the same spline count doesnt mean it has the same gear ratio "

i bought a transmission from tiger japanese for my exs mx6 and when i got it installed, it was junk, they wouldn't refund me or exhange it either.

haha well i would love to buy one off here but not so easy to come by and for the price i would say about impossible. and thanks for the info pimpin81.

Get what you pay for. Sorry to hear about the bad luck with it. I've never trusted those claims for at least engines saying "50k miles or less". I would never buy one without seeing a compression test at least and seeing if there are any bad bearing or oil sludge.

well great news no tiger japanese transmissions i found a transmission from a member on here thanks for the advice.

Even though this thread is pretty much over, I just want to add that I bought my motor from tiger. It's been running strong for over two years now, it was in excellent condition when I bought it. Besides a leaky oil pan I can't seem to fix, I'm very happy with it.

They warranty all their engines and transmission for like 60 days I believe.
