2G Ticking noise

I got my '99 eclipse (RS) as a project as it didn't run when I got it. I got a new battery and changed the oil, gas, and gaskets for the valve cover and oil pan. I started the engine and there was a loud knock. I replaced all of the rod bearings. I changed the oil again with some oil treatment to flush out potential gunk. I started the motor once again and the knock was replaced by a much milder ticking. Some have suggested that the fuel injectors can be making the noise, but I am not sure how to fix this. Note that I am on a tight budget and cannot afford anything major.

Yes the noise could be lifters. If they are sick, get EVO3 lifters if possible. They seem to be a longer lasting proposition.

You can use a long wood handled screwdriver to do a sort of diagnostic by sound. Hold the wooden end up to your ear and place the tip on the injectors or at various spots on the valve cover. The wooden handle should amplify the sound when you get to the thing making the ticking. I have located many things from defective water pumps to loose lifters this way.

lifter tick is a common problem with DSM's, I bought my 3g revised lifters from partsdinosaur for a pretty good price

Ok thanks. I read that the lifters from the 2.4 PT Cruiser will work. Is this true, and if so are they cheaper than 420a specific ones?

I take it from that post you have the 420a engine not the 4g63?

I would recommend getting one of these, its great to have for the future and cheap. Rallye Sports method works but this is a much better alternative imo

Yes I have a 420a in my eclipse. I will try to get the stethoscope to use.
