I replaced yet another axle cause the boot had an exposion over the winter. Does wonders for my rims. Anyway the problem...I am getting this on and off rubbing noise coming from the wheel I changed the axle on. It is speed dependent, the gear doesn't matter, rpm doesn't change it and braking doesn't either so I'm really lost on what is making all the ruckus down there. I've poked at the heat shield and it doesn't seem to be rubbing anywhere around the outside either. The car doesn't vibrate like the rim is out of balance either. It does seem to lessen on hard left turns. The wheel in question is on the drivers side front. I'm not really sure where to go next any pointers would be appreciated.

Noises are so subjective that they can be impossible to identify. Animal, mineral, vegitable...

Is it rubber on plastic for example, is it rotational/speed related? Is it rough or smooth, brake pad and rotor, wheel bearing. Backing plate, rotor and hub, steering related.

Brake pad and rotor would probably be my first guess. Pull the wheel, sand the rotor and pads, this might be the problem. You could take a hacksaw blade and score the pads in a diamond pattern but need to do to both sides. Bleed that caliper for it might not be retracting quite enough. Make sure the caliper can float and self center.

Cheers,
GTM
