Hey guys' I was idling today and heard some noise ticking in my engine.. So I decided to see if anyone knew what it was. Anyways here's some details, it happens when the car is idling and also when the car is under low rpms .. when it gets into the higher rpms it disappears then it reappears as the idle gets low again.. heres a link to a website I made to post my clip on .. just click on the link that says Engine Ticking if it doesn't work let me know and I'll email you the clip.. thanks!

im gonna go ahead and say its normal lifter tick, sounds almost like mine but i just changed my oil so its not that bad anymore.

Add seafoam to your oil 100 miles before you change your oil and the next time you change it the volume of the ticking will be almost to completely gone.

If anyone thinks its something other than lifter tick, chime in...

Oil level is perfect.. how can I fix lifter tick? new lifters? are they expensive and easy to do?

try seafoam first and mix half the bottle in your oil and then do an oil change after 50-100 miles. If you wanna change out your lifters there is a how to on Vfaq.com

http://www.vfaq.com/mods/lifters.html

and if you search "Revised Lifters", you will find a lot of places that sell OEM ones under the original suppliers name pretty cheap.

Have had the same problem with mine when i changed my oil the alast time. I found out it was because i put in 5w full syn. this time isstead of what i normaly use and that is 10w syn. blend. The tick went away when i changed the oil agian:D

I concur on the lifter tick mine does it also. The strange thing with mine is that when it starts ticking I can turn off the engine then restart it and the tick is gone.

that tick is a regular occuring thing in dsm's. I have the same thing but it it isnt gonna hurt you. I am 99% sure that is what you are hearing is that lifter tick. Not a big deal. Wont hurt your performance neither. Dont worry but try the seafoam that have been proven to work well.

Yeap definetly lifter tick in order to get rid of them you can just buy a 3G lifter set or some aftermarket ones. Also always have your oil change when you supose to, when i didn't change my oil for a while it started to tick alot. :thumb:

Don't even worry about changing your lifters to get rid of that noise. And if people ask, "its a preformance tick"

Not entirely true, yes lifter tick is common in DSM's and you can either take them apart and clean them or get the redesigned 3g lifters. But the tick in some cases can hurt performance. If the lifter tick gets loud enough it can be picked up by the knock sensor, which can obviously retard your timing if the knock count is high enough.

so I added that lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer to my oil today and drove around for about 15 minutes... heres the noise still.... click on the link at my site.. http://bjoseph04.tripod.com/ god damn this noise pisses me off by the way in this clip I'm holding my phone by the back of the head near the intake manifold

try the seafoam in your engine oil now, drive for the 100 miles. MAKE SURE YOU ARE GOING TO CHANGE YOUR OIL RIGHT AFTER THIS!!!!
this is almost a sure thing. if it doesnt work get the 3g (third time revised, NOT 3g eclipse {2000-2005} lifters)

can you give me a link for some lifters third time revised? ( if the sea foam doesn't work )

IDK about the lifter thing guy's... doesn't seem to be getting ne better but then again I haven't driven 100 miles since the seafoam was added.. so far I added 1qt of lucas oil stabilizer and the whole bottle of seafoam and drove 76 miles and the ticks still there not only that I have lost a significant amount of low end torque? help :(

also I haven't changed the oil since adding that stuff yet i will at 100 miles.. but i dont know doesn't seem like this is going to work

wait till after you change the oil because that seafoam can crud up ## oil. when you you get some new oil in there it may help. Also, the seafoam isnt guarenteed to work on curing the lifter tick should help some though. lets get some other opinions though.......

i did an oil chnage on my car today, the lifter tick didnt go away, but it is quiet compared to what it was like before (your clip).

My car sounded just like that, then it started shutting off, then it could only revo to 3k, and finally it died because of crankwalk. Might want to check into that

Yea, I had the same issue. Mine was lifter tick along with 2 sticking valves. How many miles are on your car? Might want to look into doing a headjob. Can put 3g lifters on it at the same time....
