ok this is a problem that goes away an comes back at its own mindset, i have this godawful ticking coming from below the intake mani as it seems, i tried to narrow it down but i cant, i even opend the oil cap but it didnt get louder, all i heard was the wshhh of the cams spinnging, im at a complete lose on this one an was wondering if anyone knew what it could be cause im getting pissed off at it ive tried to figure it out for a month now an have gotten no where, any ideas or comments will be of help thanks here is a site with all my mods: http://www.dvcsite.com/car/car.htm :dsm:

check the egr solenoid, it makes a constant ticking that is very bothersome. it goes away and comes back while the car is running. It is located behind the intake mounted on the firewall. let the car idle until you hear it ticking, then start to touch the solenoids, u should feel it vibrating in sinc with the ticking.

What does that mean if the hydro lifters make ticking noise? My head has gotton a little louder since I had it. Sounds like it's coming from the head. Are the lifters a simple adjust to fix or is it something you have to replace.

Lifters are best replaced. There is no real fix. You can get a set of 3G ones for around $140 and they arent too hard to replace. Have to lift the cams and pull the old ones out and drop the new ones in. About an hour job if your new to dsms... :thumb:

actually I can get mine out without lifting the cams. All I do is pry off the rockers

A common DSM affliction :) It doesn't _do_ anything other than sound annoying. Just so you know, the "3g" lifters don't mean lifters out of a third-generation Eclipse, it's just a newer, revised set of lifters that hopefully eliminate the problems of the previous designs.

Ever been to a DSM meet before? VRRMmmmm VRRmmmm tick tick tick tick... it sounds like a field of sewing machines :D

For a band-aid fix, put a can of that "restore" stuff that comes in a soda-can looking thing next oil change. That's what I do, because I'm too lazy to fix it otherwise. It quiets them down a bunch. Also try changing brands of oil (or switching to synthetic). It seems like every car has a different method of solving the ticking.

ok i havent had the tick happen for a few days so i cant touch thnigs n wut not to find out what it is an its pissin me off cause i kno its gunan come back when i dont want it to:thumbdown

ok got the tick to come back and i narrowed it down to my egr solenoid because if i let my car sit in Nuetral an let the rpm sit steady for more then 30 seconds at ne rom above 1400 it ticks but below 1400 its fine??? any ideas? and how much is it for a new egr solenoid

<----just another ticking victim:(
well, mine usually ticks 1000-1200 rpm(est.) when i start it, but it goes away as soon as the temp. guage goes to normal, but sometimes if i dont let it settle till normal temp. when i step on the gas i would hear the ticking. but if i let it warm up and settle then the ticking goes away, but there still a mild rattling noice, but goes away if i rev the engine above 1200rpm. is this the kind of ticking u guys are getting?

So no one in this thread has any other symptoms ? Just noise . Pcv valve on valve cover been replaced ? And I think , well know , that faulty/aging lifters could become a costly problem . They are an important part of the valve train .

Ive replaced my lifters and everything in my head except the cams. I noticed that when breaking my motor in the ss valves would tick.. but then it went away as the motor broke in.. When i did that i fixed every air leak in the intake.. so for now i dont know what is making the noise.. as for new lifters and everything. Pcv valve has been replaced with brand new one also. im wondering if it isnt something to do with the idle air control valve.. I dont know what else there is to be checked. any one else have any idea's? i noticed in you tube on 420a videos you can hear the same tick.

How many miles on head ? Camshafts ? When I replace my head , all new except cams , I had a tick/slapping noise from head . I was told , seem to be true in my case , that the lobes can develop low/flat spots . I replaced camshafts , no more noise . sucks but may want to have them checked .
