throttle body shaft seal?

has anyone tried using only an O-ring and eliminated the metal casing of the seal? My metal casing is all tweaked and i cant find anywhere that carries these OEM type seals. I was thinking of using a 9/16 x 5/16 x 1/8 O-ring instead of the 1/2 x 3/8 x 1/16 to make up the difference of the metal casing not being there anymore. I read an old thread of someone "GOING" to try it but he never reported back if it was successful in sealing the leak.

It's possible to use them.. I've never had good luck when i tried though. Why not just get the real seals from www.machv.com?
