Thread Pitch Needed

While replacing the steering wheel on my 95 awd car i noticed that big nut that holds the wheel on directly in the center, was buggered up. I decided to run it down to clean the threads up and well that wasn't the best thing because that buggered the threads on the shaft now as well. So long story short i need to run a die down the shaft and just get a new nut. So can anyone tell me the thread pitch of the nut and shaft.

ASA says 12, which I can only guess to be part of the size. If it follow other 12mm nuts/bolts, it's a 12 x 1.25.

Now that's what I'm talking about. It's definitely 12x1.25
