Recently I pulled the turbo and exhaust manifold off of my 95 tsi and ended up breaking one of the 8mm studs off nice and deep inside the hole. I tried using an easy out, but of course it didn't work. I'll probably just helicoil it. Anyhow, I don't want to relive this again by breaking another stud, so I'm looking to replace all the studs. My car has already claimed a lot of money this weekend, so I'm feeling cheap LOL.

Could I get thoughts on this stud kit from MAPerformance? They are a dsm vendor and have an account here on Tuners, so I can't imagine that it would be that bad.

Thanks!

I'd probably buy these from the dealer so that I know for a fact that they're oem. Also, don't forget to use antisieze when you install them.... this will prevent the issue you experienced with breaking one off in the head.

when looking for an exhaust stud kit, you will want to make sure the nuts are made of brass, also make sure the studs are grade 8, and always put copper based anti seize on the inner threads of the head and a bit on the tip of the stud [side that goes into the head] , before installing them it will aid in near future tear downs etc.

I have also heard good things about stainless studs, but no first hand experience... so I can't really give much input on them, but I'd still add the anti seize in the mix stainless or not.

Thanks for the responses. I'd just like to say that I went ahead and got this kit, and I was pretty happy with it. The picture they have on the listing is misleading. The nuts are indeed made of brass and the kit comes with all the necessary washers (not shown in the picture). Also, the studs appear to be grade 8, though I didn't see any markings on them.
