Hey guys i just bought dejon's upper intercooler pipes and when i was taking off the stock "s" pipe with the elbow that connects to the throttle body, i noticed that there are two bolts that are embedded in the throttle body itself. The bolts are on the right side of the throttle body. I have heard that i can pull them out but won't that screw up the threads for the new bolts supplied with the uicp? If i take a vice grip to them and tighten it down really tight and start uncrewing it with the vice grips will those bolts back themselves out? Also, does the "s" pipe come with a gasket for throttle body elbow? Thanks for all your help in advance.

Wow, ok i never thought of that. Is that what you did to take yours off?

And i guess with the gasket issue... I should just use might stock one? Thanks for the help

My Dejon UICP kit came with 4 bolts to replace the stock ones. Since the flange on the UICP is thinner than the flange on the TB elbow, you need to use the shorter bolts.

I reused the stock metal TB gaskets, but make sure you put some high temp RTV on both sides before you put things back together, or you'll definitely have a boost leak. When working with the gooey RTV and gaskets, hold the TB and gaskets in place with the front-lower bolt (the one that slots into the UICP flange) and one hand to keep it from rotating around that bolt. Just be careful slotting the UICP flange onto the bolt, then get another bolt (back-upper) through the whole assembly and lined up with the hole in the IM and gently push everything together. Turn that back bolt a few times to get the threads started, then you're locked in place so that nothing can rotate. Keep pressure on the whole assembly and tighten the back-top bolt until it's holding everything firmly together. Then you can work on getting all of the other bolts in and snugged. Make sure you torque to spec and don't overtighten. Let the RTV set up for 24 hours if you can. Then do a boost leak test.

One thing I did that seemed like a good idea gone bad was to clean off the surface of the UICP flange where it mates to the TB (cleaned all the powder coating off of it). Unfortunately, the weld itself leaked!! Dave sent me a new one, and I left the powder coat on it and just RTV-ed the gaskets. No boost leak.

Do the TB gaskets right, or you'll do them again.:thumb:

Hey man that is some great info. What do you mean by "torque to spec"? What is it? How many turns does it take if you remember? Thanks a lot

Go to your local auto parts store and pick up either a Haynes or Chilton manual for your model car. The torque specs are how tight you screw in the bolt. You need a torque wrench (pick one up while you're getting the manual). Look in the manual for the chapter on intake. Torque specs are listed at the beginning of the chapter in the Haynes manual. Look for Throttle boddy bolts. I forget the value, and I don't have my manual at work ;).
