I just read on here that 95-96 dsms get the most crankwalk?? That sounds stupid, hard to believe but, I would like to know what you guys think. My situation is selling my 95 to buy this sweet 98 Eagle Talon but was really wondering if it was worth it, I just had to put a new block in my engine cause I got rod knock but we think we know why, anyways, what you guys think about the crankwalk on 95-96, is it more or less frequent?

Its been seen too many times in the 2g to go unnoticed. Its also been proven that mitsu had a bad run of crank bearings in the 2g motors. Its most seen in the 4g63t.

First of all, crankwalk is WAY overrated. Having said that 95-96 have the highest possibility of getting crankwalk. Think of it this way, if you get it, get another 7 bolt or get a 6 bolt engine.

If there is nothing wrong with your car and there are no signs of crankwalk, I would not sell the 95 to get a 98 just based on the fact that your 95 COULD crankwalk.

Remember this, any DSM, of any year, CAN cranwalk.

so can ANY other engine. It's much more prone to happening in a 7 bolt DSM though. Do more searching, this stuff has been discussed like 1000 times.

Might want to check the motor and see if its the original 95 motor, I thought mine was the original motor then I saw the crank angle sensor on the side of the valve cover. On 95-96s they are located down by the waterpump.

Anyway, yeah crankwalk is overrated...but on the poll we had here the 97s seemed to get it the most.

The guys are right it is way overrated I'm up to 152.xxx on my stock 7 bolt with no signs of crankwalk and a kid out here has 210.xxx on his 7 bolt. The way I see it is I'll worry about it when it happens but it seems like that day is never going to come. #### I know 2 guys out here that swapped to 6 bolts and they crankwalked even though 6 bolts are suppose to be the way out of that issue.

Crankwalk is also very rare after 100k miles.

don't fix it if it ain't broke is a common motto to such a thing, I wouldn't worry about it until it or if it happens. But if your going to wanna have alot of hp. and are planning on a rebuild, you might want to consider a 6 bolt. just for that little bit of extra comfort zone. (sorry Vanessa...) Not saying you couldn't use a 7 bolt for alot of hp, just saying thats what I would personally do. But all the above posts are correct. Although I read somewhere too that the 95 and 96 7 bolts had more problems with crankwalk then later engines, it is interesting the post you referred to said it was the 97 model had the problems, I have a 96 Talon with crankwalk, but my 98 Eclipse is strong as ever.

I personally would, and did choose a 7 over a 6. I like there main cap gurdle design and windage tray to keep oil from airating. If you are going to rebuild. Rebuild what you got. Why spend money on a different motor that you are going to have to change the wiring on a few things for. If you are rebuilding with aftermarket parts then I wouldn't hesitate to use the 7 bolt. If you are going stock I would still use it but depending on your goals maybe throw a set of 1g big rods in there. And as far as individual years go, 97 was the worst by far. Combine 95-96 and they might be more but year by year 97 was worst.
