I have a 95 TSi. I did the 1G CAS mod when I first purchased the car. Several months ago, I put a 1G top end on my rebuilt 7 bolt. Oil return pipe broke during a long trip and I spun a bearing due to lack of oil.
So, I am putting my 6 bolt in. Got the engine in with a rebuilt 2G trans and started bolting things together. Finally, I was ready to crank the car up (with out the cooling system, alternator, etc. hooked up).
Wouldn't fire. First thing I checked for was spark. Not getting spark. Not getting fuel. Then I realized my CEL was not illuminating with the key on like it was supposed to. As well as the stock boost gauge not rising to 0 like it should. So, bad ECU, right?
Did a few more tests and I am clearly not getting any power to the ECU. Whether the ecu is bad itself or something else is wrong.
A friend asked me about a big a$$ plug near the frame rail/transmission area being plugged in. While I was bolting things onto the engine, I seen a big plug in this vicinity that was unplugged. It struck me as interesting because I didn't remember anything that big plugging into the transmission. But, I pondered back to what I was doing.
If this big plug is the plug that connects the wiring harness that runs from the ECU to the fuse box to the harness the runs along the radiator support, over the left front tire well, and into the car to the in-car fuse box/obd2 port, etc., would this cause me to not have any power to the ECU?
I am no longer at the garage which is 30 mins from me so I can't just go plug it in and check. I was planning on buying an ECU before my next venture to the garage.
This is the plug I am referring to.
