I am thinking about putting in a turbo on my 1st gen. eclipse. Every car that is fast has one and Im thinkin that its time to get some real power. but anyways, my engine is a 1.8L and I was wondering what other things I would need to have done to install a turbo. I am getting a whole turbo kit with an intercooler and everything and I am wanting to know what else I need such as a new ECU, do I need this, or will it just bolt on and thats the end of it.

if u plan on turbo charging a 1.8 its gonna be more than just a simple bolt on. i'm not sure they even made turbos for the 1.8.

I found some answers, it seems that this one uses the factory ECU so it is total bolt-on. but thanx for the help you guys. Im still just getting into this stuff so bare with me.

Go into the non turbo tech section and you will see lots of people discussing this topic.

Also there is a site dedicated to 1.8 liter cars. But I do not remeber the address.

What you need depends on how far you are willing to go with it (money).

The basics would be a small turbo (T25, 14B, 13G), and an exhaust manifold (custom).

Yep there are people that are doing it.

Search and you will find it.

This "general" section is more for tubo cars, or questions that would apply to general maintenance and repair of both types of cars.

Adding a turbo to non turbo, would be in the non turbo specific section.

Weigh out the pros and cons, and you may decide it's a better value to sell the 1.8 and get a turbo car. Or you may not.

I say do what you want, good luck either way.
